Especially in a track like the nurburgring, cornering speeds are much more cruical than the straightline raw power.

and in the straightline, i seriously doubt the 997 turbo would be able to keep up with the SL65....sorry, but the SL65 can blow by the 1/4 mark at 11s, and thats bone stock..
up at higher speeds, the SL65 would dominate even more because of its large displacement engine and the extra 6 cylinders....but high speed stability is another thing.

with the limiter removed, the SL65 can easily go beyond 200mph, but the 997 turbo, although with its amazing aerodynamics and TT engine, still cant break the 200 barrier yet..

just my 2 cents
If the SL65's engine is front mounted, where is the SL55 engine?! Also, I think you meant to say understeer, not oversteer

The Merc will win I think. No replacement for torque

With double the displacement (and turbocharged) I would expect the SL65 to be faster.

You'll be surprised to know that the 997TT actually has a speed limiter that keeps it from going beyond 193 mph. Heck, even the 997 GT3 has the same top speed limit.

Also front mounted but with less weight, and the shorter block allows it to be placed further back from the front axel.

My next door neighbor has an sl65...... i had my friends 997tt(6000miles on it), i will say i had the car for about an hour or so....so i was not up to par on my shifting/launch. but i got my *** handed to me from a stop. it surprised me, i know they are fast but its a BENZ! i just have some image that benz's cant handle well, and have a town car suspension(even thou they are AMG). i have not had a chance to drive it yet, but i might go do that, right now! How much do they run for?$$$

I realize that - the way it was written made it sound like it was a mid engine car LOL!

How about $190,000.00 to start. Look at their ring lap times. They handle very well for a two ton+ beast. Take the AMG Challenge someday. You will be very suprised with how some of them handle. The SLs have an active suspension. They ride very smooth and corner very flat, even at the limits.

Some of these people on here (not typically this thread but past thread's/instances) just speak without no first hand knowledge or experience. I have been in a stock SL65, renntech'd, then renntech'd with a module. The car in sport, handled SO DAMM GOOD, i was speechless! Flat as a board cornering, couldnt tell its weight one bit!
