Once the 997TT turbos are swapped out to non-VTG turbos (which they'll need to be for big power)...I don't think you'll see power gains over the current modded 996TT's. It's the same engine.

I don't see how the 997TT will perform so much better than the 996 since except for the turbos and intercoolers, that all serious 996s seem to replace anyway, the engine is pretty much the same...

THe only thing that offers an advantage has to be the improved Tiptronic.

I know this is confusing for some but the numbers don't corespond to the engine size.

I own a SL65 with Renntech mods and I can tell you that in a straight line I don't think my CGT would have to like it from 40-140mph. Guys with the same mods that I have are running 10.8's in the quarter, so it is serious fast!

I raced a stock Hayabussa from 75-165mph in my SL65 and I was 2 car lengths ahead. The car is truly a beast at highway speeds and I haven't found anything that can take it yet.

I do agree that comparing these two cars is apples to oranges, maybe if Porsche ever produces a hard top convertible you can compare it to the Merc.
I was in my friends renntech'd sl65 before he sold it, it was unlike anything ive been in, and ive been in FAST supra's, porsche's, and so on, it was insanity! The acceleration and g forces pin your cheeks to the seat, and everything is a blur (tunnel vision) like on the video games

aight...i'll let the car speaks for itself. only if these tuners start to roll out more goodies. If not, IM going straight to KOOKS for custom race headers & exhaust, then to farnbacher for new turbos/intercoolers/intake/cams, then GIAC. that should be good for 700hp daily driver..ahhahahahah Its all good playas...besides i can care less about running anyone off the light...BORING!

I'd like to hear Craig's take on how his modded 996TT would do against it. His car is a beast that is putting out nearly 800HP. Craig?

It wouldn't even be close. I'm confident any 996TT making a true 600 crank HP will easily beat a stock SL65.

yes, Im with your top dawg as I think a 600hp tt (996 or 997) will put a beating on a SL65.... those heavy *** benz and their higher lost of hp through the tranny in comparison to our tts will likely fall short on running neck 2 neck against our beasts.... Besides how often do u run into a SL65 that wants to run?????

What are you figuring a 25% drivetrain loss? isnt that a little high? i would figure 18-20% at most.

20% of 600 is 120. So a 600 crank HP TT should be putting down app. 480 to all four wheels. If you dyno an AWD car in RWD, and make 480 at the rear wheels, it's making around 565 at the crank since there is only a 15% loss. I think a AWD TT will need 600 true crank HP, or 480 to all four wheels, to continually beat a stock SL65.
