Any news on DSG for 997TT?
looking forward to this dsg thing - but for me jury's still out between this and a nice snicking 6 speed to which porsche has FINALLY sorted out.
i've driven a dsg vw and well... it was kinda boring, but in 911 form who knows. gota drive it

To answer the question about what it does, it is a double-clutch manual that "pre-loads" the next gear up or down on a separate input shaft (think of concentric circles instead of 2 clutches inline). The shifts are lightning fast...
It even feels like a manual in that when you lift, it doesn't shift up like a normal automatic, plus it will roll slightly if you take your foot off the brake (not pulling like a torque converter auto). The VW/Audi DSG rev-matches on downshifts, so I imagine PDK will do the same. It is much smoother than single-clutch semi-manuals like SMG, e-Gear, F1, etc.

It will be interesting to see how they fix it up to take the required level of torque. I mean the DSG I have is rated for only 260 foot pounds. Obviously it will take more but not too much... I think the only drawback with this style tranny for the 997TT will be the limitations in terms of the additional HP you will have trouble doing...
Looking forward to this PDK! We all know Porsche will not release it until it is perfect.
I absolutely love the functionality of the SMG on my M3. The only problem is the jerking when shifting under high engine loads. The double clutch system will fix that. I hear BMW will use it (SMG IV) on the E92 M3 next year.

No "Official" news on the DSG yet, and I would say nothing before Frankfort Motor-Show Sep. 07
Why don't you go back to your First Choice; an immediate delivery 997 Turbo 6-speed

Plus my garage is pretty empty right now unfortunately

Need new wheels soon...most likely 997TT PDK unless I win the lottery or something and can afford a 599 GTB (thought of LP640 but like 599 more now)

The one thing I don't get is, what if you decided to go 2 gears up or down.
If it pre selects even gear when you are in an odd gear, what happens when you skip two and are back on odd gear?

STUTTGART -- Four years after the launch of the current series, Porsche's iconic 911 will be upgraded for the summer of 2008.
The front end will get a larger air intake, and the rear lighting will be redesigned.
Major technological innovations to the 911 will include a conversion of the six-cylinder gasoline engine to direct injection and the addition of an optional dual-clutch transmission.
The transmission will allow shifts without interrupting driving power, even in manual mode.
Porsche's direct-injection engine, dubbed DFI, is projected to cut fuel consumption by about 10 percent.
The updated generation of the 911 also will come with improved performance. The Carrera S coupe, which starts at $82,600, will have at least 370 hp, up from 355 hp.

Alex - speaking of DSG w>260hp, I was contemplating a turbo upgrade, too...
