Unhappy MP3 CD frustrations..

Really enjoying my 997TT since I took delivery a month back. Still taking it easy with the throttle (with the occasional flooring for good measure ). One thing about PCM though:

When I burn my MP3s onto CD using iTunes on my Mac (using data mode), only about HALF the songs play in the car. Plus, some of the ones that DO play won't display the track name/artist (not that big a deal, at least they play). The CD plays fine on the Mac. Has anyone else had this problem?

I know this topic has been discussed before, but my question goes out to those computer pros out there (assuming the problem is NOT with PCM). Should I try using another program like Roxio Toast? With these programs, do I have to drag each and every song into the copy window (150+ tracks)?? Will this make any difference?

I had this same issue with my 997S previously, but now I'm determined to get to the source of it with my TT! It can be really frustrating knowing my favorite tracks are there but are being ignored by PCM..

I had an encounter myself: when the player reached a certain song in an mp3 CD, the pcm would reboot entirely and would keep doing so until I somehow changed the song. I didn't like the song either.

Make sure the mp3s are not copyright protected in any way. Did you download the songs?

I burn my mp3 cd's with Nero Express and usually create multiple folders to categorize the songs. No problems whatsoever. Highly recommend using it.

i also use nero and burn into folders. never had a problem. i think you may want to use something rather than itune and see if that may work better. good luck.

If I had to guess (I'm a computer guy), the Mac is using some kind of formatting that it just a bit out of "spec" for the PCM. It could be as simple as filenames that are too long or contain certain characters that a windows box normally wouldn't use or strip. I would start as others suggested and make sure you seperate your songs into folders with no more than 99 songs per folder. If that doesn't work, I would try something other than iTunes, which I realize is a PITA. Since the Windows/Nero folks aren't having a problem, that's my best guess.

If you've bought songs from the iTunes store, its not in mp3 format, its in the sonically superior acc format. But that means a simple mp3 player like the one on the 997 won't be able to play it. Also in iTunes, if you rip your own songs, the default setting is for acc, you can go to preferences and set it to mp3, which is what I do. iTunes lets you convert any acc into mp3 just for this reason, but it will not convert acc songs that you've bought from the iTunes store. What you'll have to do is burn an audio CD then rip it into mp3. Or there are hacks to strip it of the copy protection, so I've heard.

Wow, that's what I like about this forum: So many responses from owners and enthusiasts!

To answer someone's question, all the songs on the CD are MP3 not aac etc.. most are from original CDs, others were downloaded years ago

Interesting thing about the 99 song limit per folder. I don't think it's the brand of CDs I'm using (Sony).

I guess there's no other way that to manually drag the songs into a new folder using Toast and hope for a better result.

Will let u guys know what happens.

Thanks for the feedback!

I might have to check up on the CD that was giving me issues, since it was not produced by me. May have been done in a MAC. My own CDs haven't given me any problems.

Another thing, in iTunes, if you try and burn a CD the songs might have the same names, because of the earlier 7.3 formatting. If it encounters 2 songs with the same name, it will not burn it onto the CD.

Thumbs up Worked!

I started with my shortest playlist to save time (139 songs), and created a new folder making sure I follow the 99 song limit per folder rule. Burned the CD through Roxio Toast on the Mac. Perfect! All the tracks on the CD play in PCM with the song title on the screen.

Another cool thing I noticed is when using the Random play feature, PCM will randomly go through ALL the folders on the CD, not just the one you're in at the moment. Nice!

Once again, thanks to all who contributed!
