Basalt black is a metallic color that will look like a very dark brown/bronze in the sunlight and black in low light conditions. It hides imperfections better than a pure black color might. My 986 was this color and I thought it looked pretty good.

Pure Black on the 997 appears to be very soft! I think its the best color for the car but if you are **** about swirls, I would think twice. I do two bucket washing with lambs wool glove, use microfibre to dry yet swirls appear anyway... if I had to do it again I would seriously think about slate, didn't like basalt or atlas, especially when beside pure black.

anyone seen the Dark Olive green Metallic, the website doent do any justice but when i saw it at the dealer it was a sure thing. The color is awesome, it's pretty much black 90% and you can see the green metallic only in direct sunlight.

I have basalt black and I chose it because its much easier to care for than Black. If you have the time (and effort) to care for a black car .. go for it; Otherwise basalt is your new best friend.

Also, the dealer here calls it 'Liar Black' (direct translation) since it fools the eyes.

Shukran jezeelan... darustu li mudat taweel...

Personally, I love Basalt - I like when a color is not a "pure" color (ex. pearl white, metallic blue, etc.)
