Have you driven them both?
I drove a neighbor's 993 Turbo about a year ago and as good as it looks, etc., I personally would never get it over the 997 version.

But if you need to get it out of your system I like DocJackson's recommendation...

I have 3.8L 993TT w/ 30K miles and would never sell it for a 997TT.

For daily driver, 997TT will be more comfortable.

As a keeper, you cannot pass on this 993TT. As other have said, you can pick up a 997TT easily at a good price in a few years.

If the 993TT is dirt cheap and a known entity then it is worth considering. It would be a weekend/ track toy, if that's something you want. If it's a DD you want then get the 997TT and don't look back.

Doc,

Call me old school, but the electronic nannies in the post 993 Porsches (and BMWs and MBs for that matter) really turned me off. I feel I am totally disconnected from the road. I own a 993 Ruf BTR and a Cayman now so I can truly compare the driving 'feel' of the 993 and the newer Porsches.

If it was me, I'll grab the 993tt and live happily ever-after.

Just my 2 cents.

CP

I had a 997TT and would rather get a 993TT over it any day, the 993 has more "soul" that the 997TT ever wish it could. But thats just me, and some other guys that felt that the 997TT was disconnected.

Get the 993, if you don't like it you can flip it at no real loss. A 997tt will be available for a while to come if you change your mind.

No doubt about it. The 993TT is one of the absolute classic 911 turbos. Add the "S" and it's even more so.

The problem with your predicament is that you're forced to choose between apples and oranges. The two cars probably have more dissimilarities than similarities. I drove a 930 for nearly 2 decades and would have loved to own a 993TT. But compared to the new 997TT, well there isn't much comparison. Both are superb cars for slightly different reasons. Ideally...get 'em both!! You know as much as anyone, life's too short.

What soul are you guys talking about? The archaic driving position? The lack of safety equipment? The oil leaks? Or maybe its the unrestrained power that can get you into trouble in a hurry?
