Exhaust Tips

Atomic just got ceramic coated (black) tips from Performance Coatings in Auburn, WA. (253-735-1919) for his car. They look great and should last, since the coating is good for up to 2000 degrees, and guaranteed for 3 years. Price was about $30 for each tip. I'm sure you can find a similar deal in your area. Powder coating doesn't work, since it is only baked at 350 degrees. The turbo exhaust sees temperatures somewhere in the 1100 degree range.

Cost of those tips at Porsche is $340 per side. Quite expensive if you decide to go back to factory. Price surprised me

What are you talking about? I didn't get my factory tips coated. I got my cargraphic tips coated. I still have the factory tips in chrome on the stock mufflers.

No one said you did. Just made the point if one uses the factory tips to get coated, then to get back to factory $340 per tip. Incidentally, how much were the cargraphic tips?????

Fabspeed tips range in price from $750-$1000 depending on source and type
Cargraphic tips are around $1200 for either oval or circular tips
TechArt tips are around $1280

Definitely not cheap. Porsche OEM tips are cheap by comparison.

Somewhere on the forums there is a post with pictures showing what are alledgedly ceramic coated tips that have the coating burned off after a weekend at the track. According to Performance Coatings (and these tips were not coated by them) 99% of coating failures are caused by poor preparation of the surface. They send parts out to be sandblasted to bare metal, then sandblast them again in house just before coating. If you have your tips ceramic coated be sure the processor understands the heat issues.

Good grief.....you're right.....seems a bit expensive even for a +$129K car for a couple machined chrome exhaust cans. And what amazes me more and more is that on my new tt with 3K miles, the finish on the inner-lower parts of the factory chrome exhaust tips (where the exhaust exits the strongest) are already beginning to discolor and tarnish. Not good chrome I suspect.
