Test drove a 997TT this afternoon

First impression: Wow its fast, but that clutch takes a bit getting used to. Granted, I'm currently driving an S6 which unfortunately is an automatic, but I've had several other manual cars in the past, including a 996TT, and I don't recall that clutch as being as sensitive. I know its hydraulic assisted which takes a bit getting used to, but...

Did it take you guys a bit to get used to the clutch or am I just that out of practice?

The car was pretty bare bones; if it had a few of the options I wanted I might have decided I'll learn . It's midnight blue over natural at HBL in Vienna, VA for anyone who is interested. They are willing to discount a bit.

Andrew,

I had no probelms at all. I have the short shifter though. I like my 997turbo's clutch and shifter better than my 993. After awhile I'm sure you will get it. Also pretty nice driving around town considering the torque and power, this has to be one of best 6 speeds around.

I've tested a 997TT and the clutch is different from my 997S. A lot lighter, and take up sooner. Could be just the sample I drove though. Surprised me at first. Kinda embarrassed myself!

It's the best clutch feel I have ever had in a car and I have been driving a manual for about 20 years. It's honestly one of my favorite parts of the car...for the first time in my life I don't mind driving in traffic.

Andrew -

You should PM me your contact info - I am also in the area... I am over at HBL 2-3 times a week. If you ever see a Carrera S with BBS wheels, that's me (or in my red A3). Which salesman were you dealing with?

Andrew,

Your out of practice. The clutch on the 997TT is by no means, difficult.

Like any car, learning the friction point might take a bit of getting used to at various speeds, but I assure, the clutch on the TT is pretty "normal."

i noticed that when driving my dads 996TT, its a lighter clutch than what was in my 996 c4 cab. my m3 is maybe a little bit harder than the turbo but less than the c4. i would imageine a 997S clutch would be harder than a 997TT if it holds true yet again.

Keep in mind that the TT clutch system is power Assist!! Like your brakes. The others are not.

i agree with b-line and justin-the clutch on the 997tt is pretty normal-i have driven the car since november and maybe stalled out a few times, and i am no where close to a great driver.backing up going up a hill is easy-if you get a turbo, you will have no problems getting used to the clutch. the feel is light and the friction zone is easy to find and manage. you want a tough clutch that is like a stair master work out?-go drive an 89 or so turbo-that is a tough clutch.

Hey I'm not saying the clutch is bad, just different from my C2. I guess it really is assisted. I got used to it after just a few gear changes.

I drove a 930 for many years, right up to my 997TT. The clutch on the newer car is def different than the others, and I found it took a little getting used to. After a few days however it's like you always drove one. Backing up is different because I think the gearing is taller than my previous car. Stalled out several times backing up, but now even that is no big deal.

Thanks, but I can't take any credit from my avatar. DJ, the site owner, photoshopped it.

Slate Grey, to answer your question.

I'm going to pick up the midnight blue tomorrow after clear bra install. I was looking for another black to replace the 997S but this midnight blue is nice. Will post some pics once I get it home.
