Hey All,

About once a year, I ask my insurance agent if I am covered on the track with my 911. I have always been told the same thing: As long as you are not racing or timing and you are in a "driving school" type event, you are covered.

So, I was doing my yearly diligence and asked and apparently State Farm has changed it's tune"
"I also called our underwriter about the 'high performance driving
school' and they said no, it would probably not be covered. She did say
it would ultimately be up to the claims person to determine if you were
racing the car or not. But if the damage shows you were going excessive
speeds, then it would probably not be covered. I said you would not be
racing against other cars and not timing, but they said you would still
be going excessive speeds which is considered racing."

I am going to repost this on the other boards so everyone knows.. Again, this is a change in State Farm policy. They have always assured me in the past, "Driving Schools/non-timed events are covered."

No current US carrier will cover DE's anymore.

 

Figures, any excuse they can come up with for not paying a claim. So what there saying is its safer to go out on the freeway and do a 130 MPH? Next thing you know they will not cover accidents if you were speeding.

 

My State Farm agent told me the same thing late last year. They knew I was going to the track for DE events and said I would be covered in the past but not anymore.

 

I should ask the question.

Progressive doesn't cover either.

 

I feel insurance companies are always trying to cheat their customers. If they have to pay, they will review your account and raise premium even if it's not your fault - e.g. vandalism or a tree fell on ur car.

 

Does there exist a "high end" premium or otherwise "Exclusive" insurance company in the US or anywhere in the world? For instance: for your higher premiums you get better coverage & service and they won't ask any questions if you took your car to the Track and wrecked it.

 

No such exclusive policies exist, no US carrier will cover anything at a racetrack after Jan 1, 2007. Personally I think the Ben wreck of the CGT had a lot to do with it, the response from the insurance industry has been pretty universal. I'm not that concerned, I will track my TT, but not as much as other cars in the past, just too much risk in a 130k car. Kinda glad I didn't get a GT3 now, I'd be bumming. Kinda takes the fun out of a one demensional car like a GT3 if you can't even take it to the track.

 

I guess we have to move to Germany, at least they offer insurance for racing the Ring

That day may not be too far off. Late model cars have a "black box" that records what operating state a car is in at all times. Privacy laws have prevented insurance companies from accessing this data thus far but who knows what'll happen in the future.
