OK The $140K Question...
From what I know, the GT3 is going to give you more feel (obviously) and better handling (again, obviously), but that's about all it will give you over the TT.
The TT will give you the handling AND the comfort. Not to mention (as stated earlier), the GT3's engine...that's the final product. With the TT, you have a whole world of mods. And on top of that, that GT3 sounds overpriced.
I would choose the TT.

I had that very choice, when mine came, so did a blk/blk GT3 and an RS, they sold the RS instantly, but I could have walked with the 3, same $. The 3 I was looking at was too optioned out at 130k msrp, so TT for me, never looked back. After experiencing the violent power of he TT I could never go back to a NA car, even a GT3. Plus you can throw your kids in the back seat and drive it every day of the year, or go to the track and take your wife out to dinner later that evening in luxury.
pose the same question in the GT3 section and I am fairly certain you will get the exact opposite of the feedback you are getting here...
question asked in the TT section will generally get you "buy the TT" for various reasons -- comfort, easier to mod, power, torque, comfort, luxury, etc
question asked in the GT3 section and generally you are going to get "buy the GT3" -- raw driving experience, still streetable, "limited" production, hold it's value better, better looking, etc...
it goes wihout saying that you need to try to drive both... I recently purchased a 996 GT3... I drove an 04 turbo x-50 and what became my 04 GT3... back to back on the same test loop... without a doubt the TT is "softer" in term of NVH (noise vibration harshness) but certainly a torque"y" motor... GT3 more peak"y"...
Deal sealer -- two lane, tree lined, semi-windy, vacant, smooth road, 75 degrees, windows down and a GT3 motor at 7500+ rpms... this has to be felt to fully appreciate it...
also must consider how you plan to use the car... whichever I bought would not be my daily driver so I could put up with the NVH of the 996 GT3...
I have not driven the 997 versions of either...
Either way you cannot go wrong (unless you get a tip trans
) and isn't life great when you are trying to decide between a TT and a GT3?
