Ok Problem Found. NOrmally the pin should be inserted in the middle hole. PorschePhd at Imagine Auto told me to insert it in the bottom hole, which did work. The dealer and PorschePhd originally stated it should be thru the middle hole, and the reason its not, they said the tumbler or some device inside somehow shifted. Nevertheless, they ordered a new part under warranty and the car will be ready tomorrow.

Thanks PorschePhd at Imagine Auto for narrowing the problem down. YOu certainly know your porsches, even the new ones. YOu should change your name to PorscheGod.

-Later!

Glad you got it fixed. I confirmed that here on my car pulling the battery and locking the key. The center tumbler would not release so , I called my buddy who is a Tech and he confirmed the latest TSB said to insert the rod in the bottom hole. Beats the hell out of me.
<O</O
I don't know about the God part, but thanks. I am probably one of the few people that you find that has completely disassembled a 997S from the B pillars forward. I mean not a stitch in the car. Nothing. Dealer screwed up a wiring harness and the customer did not want them to touch it! I will try anything once. <O</O

I saw it over there today, looks like it is good hands. Mine is over there right now as well... getting a GMG exhaust put in.

Ok i got my car back. all is well. Jim I did see your car there. I would be upset that they were using your rear wing as a lunch table, eating on it and leaving some wrenches on it. I think they scratched it, but I saw them put some white out over it. jk

They installed a new key assembly, a $221.00 part - all covered under warranty.

Napleton Porsche rocks! - except their new car prices

Glad to hear the key issue has been fixed.

I agree...Napleton is superb all around. Best Porsche dealership in Chicagoland, IMHO.

Also, it helps that it's 5 minutes from my house.

That's OK, they have been threatening to paint that wing plank cobalt blue for some time now!

I knew your car was in good hands there, I saw who was working on it.

I got my GT3 at MSRP, I know several dealers around the area that were charging over if they could actually get one... they seem to treat me right all the way around there. Best dealership I have ever dealt with, just my experience...

I agree. I ordered my 2008 TT with a discount. They have always given me a reasonable discount all 3 previous Porsches I have purchased.

Most friendly, professional folks, of any make, I have dealt with. Now, if I could just get Porsche to put my car on a ship!

Ignition key/ignition lock - Do not insert the ignition key into the ignition lock if the vehicle battery is discharged (look at the interior light for a clue). The ignition key can no longer be removed. The key cannot be removed until the vehicle electrical system is supplied with power again. Update: MY08 Owner's Manual emergency key removal procedure:
1. Open the fuse box and unclip a metal hook on the inside of the cover.

2. Use the hook to remove a plastic lid on the ignition lock to the right of the key.

3. Turn the ignition key counter-clockwise as far as it will go.

4. Press the metal hook into the opening and turn the key to its initial position and remove it.

Help with my 997.1 key sticking

My key has been sticking in my ignition but easily removed with a paperclip in the center hole. I decided it was likely the ignition control module so purchased a new one and just replaced it today but the key still sticks. When I turn off my car and try to remove the key, I get a message that I must shift to Park (even though I am in Park). Any thoughts??

And it is a tiptronic auto transmission (I know, boo!) and the light on the dash confirms I am in park and I now can shift into any gear while car is off and key is out. HELP - getting tired of requiring a damn paperclip to get out of my gorgeous car!
