Can someone explain what the IC actually does

I was looking at the EVOMS Clubsport IC. My dealer tech told me that it should add more power and the install was actually a piece of cake. I'd like to get it if it truly does add more power, but I was always under the assumption that a bigger IC keeps the power longer rather than adding more power. I just dont want to plunk down money and not gain anything like the headers. Plus EVOMS is having a sale on these

Sorry for the dumb question, can anyone chime in?

ok, I'm not the most well versed in turbo's but here's the short lamen's version...Intercoolers cool the air charge going into the engine/turbo's thus making it more dense which forces a greater mass of air/oxygen into the fuel system for better and more efficient air/fuel mixture which in turn makes more power. I'm sure someone else will elaborate, but rest assured IC's are one of the easiest ways to add relatively cheap HP to a turbo. I forget how much, but when the 930 went to an intercooled engine, not only did it gain hp with no other changes, but it also had a much better (broader) HP/TQ curve!

your car is 480hp as it is but it is faster and more powerful in the cooler weather right ? so adding the bigger evo intercoolers will give almost the same effect and therefore adds hp.

Intercoolers basically increase the efficiency of the turbos. Turbos compress the intake air but in doing so they add heat with the compression. The more boost, the more compression, the more heat. After awhile, the heat builds up and the engine will start to reduce the ignition timing thus losing power. So, a good IC will not only make some peak power improvements but will more importantly maintain performance over extended running time.

Great things to learn about, here are links everyone should look at:

http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbob...o_tech102.html
http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbob...o_tech103.html

They are turbo oriented, but still good info

I would first definitely get something else like exhaust or chip than IC's.

Of course you might already have those mods...

Btw. with 996 or 997 Turbos it is VERY DIFFICULT to notice a power difference with changing IC's only. (because there isn't any real gains, but they are good for the engine and good for track driving...)
