997 now or M5?
'02 996 you should get the 997 TT. By your words that's what you really want. You said you don't need a sedan. I love my M5 but the 997 GT3 is in another galaxy. The most intuitive car I've ever driven. It feels like it's "hardwired" to my brain. A stock 997 TT will out pull a stock M5 everytime but not if modded like my M5. We had a run down here in So. Florida where a modded M6 ( without NOS ) took on a stock new Z06 Vette and spanked it twice. Both runs were 50 to 195 mph. The vette did not achieve this speed. The 997 TT would take care of business in this kind of company. GT3Ranger
if you post on the porsche bboards... of course you'll get recommendations for a porsche.
just go out and test drive each car. they are totally different experiences - it should be obvious to you.
if not, then I suggest a Pontiac Aztec, for it's classic styling and drivability.

Regarding the 997 Turbo, the dealer only has a cab in stock right now. I know that would be the better choice but if I am going to spend that much right now I might as well look at the Gallardo.
Lets see what the dealer can work out and go from there.
+1. I just bought my 06 997 c2s three weeks ago and was not aware a change was so close on the horizon. Is my 997 going to look dated when the facelift comes out in a year or are the changes very subtle?
CURIO how goes it? That was not a typo. My E60 M5 with Supersprint headers, Evosport pulley, Schrick cams, Evosport 3.91 diff, Dinan larger 10 throttle body kit, ASR Engineering custom air intakes, Active Autowerke ECU stage II. These mods are good for 470 rwhp. Then through in the ASR Engineering custom NOS kit (150 shot) the out come is 591 rwhp and 476 ft/lbs rw torque. Pretty fast in the straight line especially high speed rolling start (50 to 190 mph). I apologize for discussing about a BMW in a Porsche forum.
yrs, miles?
997 C4S is an awesome car, love that its RWD until the rear tires loose grip, makes for some fun drifting but at times I've wanted to jump into a 997 Turbo afterwards due to the additional thrust in power.
Wait! Do you "NEED" to change your car this minute? If you know the 997 update is coming - launch in Europe in Spring, available here in early Fall - then why not wait? If you recognize that the M5 is not perfect for what you want, then why bother? It' smacks of a feeding frenzy to me. Try NOT driving your 996 for a week and see how you feel about it after an enforced absence. And it's cheaper than buying what you don't want.

I am now thinking about trading in my Cayenne for the M5 since the M5 is basically the same size as the Cayenne.
I've had both a E39 M5 and now a 997 - don't be fooled with all the marketing hype around passanger sedan's posing as sports cars. They are heavy, have too much electronic's - causing unecessary driving distractiions, and numb. there is no substitute for a purpose built sports car designed from the ground up. The M cars historically filled the gap between german sedans and the carrera, but now they are getting expensive. get a slightly used 997 witih a Tubi exhaust

Ok, will it seems the 997 is the way to go and decided to keep the Cayenne and will wait for the updated 997 Turbo to come out or maybe take a look at a Gallardo or F430 if the price is right.
