Not saying the engine is a porker (it's lighter) -- I'm saying the car is a porker and the engine to me is a loss. The I6 was a wonderful engine (I loved mine). So, I think BMW lost the soul of the M3 in order to make it bigger and more luxurious, and in order to try to win the HP wars changed what the M3 was all about (I6 being the heart).

despite that weight increase, the new m3 will run even with a 997s in a straight line. on the course, i'd give it to the 997s. that being said, my '08 purcahse preference is leaning towards a p-car rather than the new m3, but for a variety of reasons....not just speed alone. a 997s with an aerokit is pure hottness...

A lot of people said the M3 lost its soul when it lost the 4 cylinder. When the M5 went to a v8 people said it lost its soul. When porsche went to water cooling people said the car lost its soul. Natural evolution, stop fighting it.

I had an E46 m3 as well, did you forget that car weighed 3450 and the new one is only a handful of pounds heavier?

I'd like the new V8 in an E30 M3.
