Any concrete info on the 998?
Not saying the engine is a porker (it's lighter) -- I'm saying the car is a porker and the engine to me is a loss. The I6 was a wonderful engine (I loved mine). So, I think BMW lost the soul of the M3 in order to make it bigger and more luxurious, and in order to try to win the HP wars changed what the M3 was all about (I6 being the heart).
that porker eight in the new e92 m3, from an engine stand point, weighs less than the six in the e46. the new m3 overall weighs more (despite aluminum hood and cf roof) because its based off the new coupe, which is heavier than the e46 was.
despite that weight increase, the new m3 will run even with a 997s in a straight line. on the course, i'd give it to the 997s. that being said, my '08 purcahse preference is leaning towards a p-car rather than the new m3, but for a variety of reasons....not just speed alone. a 997s with an aerokit is pure hottness...

I had an E46 m3 as well, did you forget that car weighed 3450 and the new one is only a handful of pounds heavier?
