Any concrete info on the 998?
Any concrete info on the 998?
Since the introduction of the 997 I heard it was just a holdover until the 998 was released. I did a search and found no concrete information about the 998 release. I am in the market for a 997, but if the 998 is on the horizon then if it gets released soon the 997 prices will drop and I can pick up one for less $.
Does anyone have any real information on a 911 update or model change?
Thanks.

Dozens of threads on this here and at the other forums. Try a search. In general, nobody knows for sure. Best guess is 2009 will still be a 997, though a slightly updated version with DFI and maybe PDK. As to 997 being a holdover, that's ridiculous. A 5-6 year holdover?!? You can wait 2-3 more years for a 998, or you can spend that time enjoying a fantastic 997. Me, at this point I think I'd wait for the 2009 model -- get your deposit in and be the 1st to get one.
I am not specificially in a hurry to get my 997 except I am infected with the NEED for a 911. I could wait another year without a problem probably, but I am so infected I keep doing research and asking questions and wanting to know everything about the 997. I guess if I'm really really needing to do it I could lease and write off on my business expenses and then get the 998. I was just hoping to get my 911 and drive it until the wheels fall off.
The thing about the 998 is nobody knows what it will be like... Imagine if they go the route of BMW and change from a rear-engine six to a porker eight with flame surfacing and over assisted everything. Sounds like you need to get into a P-car immediately and then 3 years from now when the 998 is here, decide if you like it or not.
you got another 2-3 years before the 998 is out. cars are just like electronics, if you're gonna wait for the next great thing all the time, you end up with nothing.
if anything, the 996 was a holdover. Back when porsche was going bye bye, they had enough money to r/d one car and they did the smart thing and spent their money on the boxter. other than engine, 996 shares most of its parts with the 986. Lucky for them, Porsche made a comeback, and they built the 997, the car that should've been the 996 when they went to water cooling.

+1. I purchased a 06 with 12k on it in mint condition. Took a while to find the right one in terms of color, options, and location, but I did. And I saved $24k over the price of a new one with the same options. It is certainly true that the p-cars take a tremendous hit the first two years, but at this point now I am thinking I will only lose maybe 5% a year on it for the next few years...
Great advice everyone. With the unknown arrival of the 998, I may be sitting around Porscheless for a while. I think i'll get my ducks in a row and then start my search to find the perfect 997 for me. I've seen a few already that I'd like. Now I have to narrow it down and put in some offers etc.

despite that weight increase, the new m3 will run even with a 997s in a straight line. on the course, i'd give it to the 997s. that being said, my '08 purcahse preference is leaning towards a p-car rather than the new m3, but for a variety of reasons....not just speed alone. a 997s with an aerokit is pure hottness...
