Bentley Continental GT Speed

I had the opportunity to drive the 600 HP GT Speed the other day, the S version of the GT. MAN who new a 6000lb car could be so quick and nimbal! Made my C2S seem down right slow. And I was equally as impressed with the handling, lack of body roll, smooth ride, and MONSTER 18" Ceramic Brakes that would put you through the windshield. Not to mention the exsquisite interior.
What a car, if I had $250 to drop it would be a tought choice between the GT and the Gallardo Spyder. But in my heart I am still young so the lambo would win out!

What a car,
It's a fascinating car but I think I'd opt for the standard GT as it's quite attractive as well.

My concern in all honesty is its fuel consumption. I have no concerns about affording the car or the gas but I do have a concern for its excessive fuel consumption. Not a sound situation in light of our foreign oil dependency.

I like the Maserati Gran Turismo, and it drives very nicely. But it's new and an 8 cylinder car with not particularly good gas mileage either.

So a 997 4S cabrio 6 speed sounds very good at this point for me.

Really fuel consumption?????? Why even consider a sports car then? Seems kind of a odd thing to think about. Especially for a weekend car.

Besides.... really when you own a 200K car in CA it costs about an extra 2K a year in insurance and registration.

If you want to be sensable then you buy a Prius, but 200K in a mutual fund and spend your weekends helping orphans and the homeless.

Oh an buy the way my 997 C2S gets about 15 mpg. Not much better if not the same as my F150.

Now my ninja gets 40 mpg..... but not a lot of fun to commute on.

I'll take a 9 mpg car anyday... let me know someone who wants to offload an Enzo cause gas prices are high... I will be right over.

I don't think money is the concern with that guy, more so just being sensible regarding the use of our natural resources.

with that said, I had an E60 M5 and that thing was a guzzler, about 9-11mpg. I daily drive my car and having to hit the gas station every 3-4 days is more of a nuisance than a drain on the wallet =p to each their own. If I have to live with 9mpg, it'd be a CGT, Zonda or Koenigseggggg. Otherwise a GT3/Turbo/GT2 may better serve me as daily drivers over 18mpg.

You answered your own statement. It's a weekend car and not a daily driver!

Where did you come up with that ridiculous information? Maybe you have had a few too many tickets on your license?

My 360 costs less to insure yearly than my CL500!

Maybe if you ever mature you won't make absurd, incoherent statements such as these.

Thank you. My exact point.

It's nice to know there are a few intellectuals on this site.

Gcalo, no intention to get into verbal argument with you.

But if natural resources are your concern than 100, 200 or 300K sports cars are not the answer. So I just thought it very odd to think about mpg when considering a super car, which the GT Speed certianly is.

You are correct to each his own.

But when I am spending 100K plus for a vehicle mpg is the last thing on my mind.

If I (or anyone ofr that matter) were that enviornmentally conscious than I would drive a civic and own only one vehicle.

Zero points on my record, haven't had a ticket of any kind in 10 years, and zero accidents.
I reguarly do 150 plus mph but its usually on a track.
Although I did do 135 on the way to Palomar this morning.

I just got rid of my SUV DD for a 525 bmw. I am getting 23 mpg or so which I am happy with. I would do better if I went out on the highway. The car isn't fast but I has my 997 for that.

Let me assure you that $ is not the issue for me. It's a matter of being practical in my thinking. This is why at this point in my life $ is not an issue!

This is true, and I do appreciate your statement about not wanting a verbal argument. This statement certainly speaks better of you than your original comments.

While there is some truth here, I do make purchases less on emotion and more on practical, calculated thinking. There is nothing in this world I "need".

So my reference to any purchase is to its investment quality and it's long-term value.

The fact that the Speed gulps fuel and I don't particulatly see the need for a model that does so, if I don't "need" the vehicle I don't buy it.

A high performance car can be driven decently to yield better fuel economy.

The real issue, however, is that everyone has an obligation to be "environmentally conscious or there will be neither fuel to power vehicles nor air to breathe.

not to belabor the point, but don't you own an F car? What type of mileage does that get? I am sure there are a few environmentalists that would disagree with your stance.

Your right its not about the money. Just like when Al Gore suggests save the environment by installing halogen light bulbs as he enters the Gulfstream G V $45 million dollar personal jet for 3 people which will burn as much fuel per hour as an aircraft with 300 people on it.

Now back to cars. If you really feel obligated Honda makes superb cars and are far better for the environment and your mental well being than a F car.

I guess we are going back down that road again. I did not intend to. Obviously we both like cars. And I assume that is a good thing.

But not matter how much or how little money we have it is difficult to justify a 100K toy and then be concerned with gas mileage.
