Did I hurt my car???

I was having a spirited drive in Dallas today. (2007 C4 997)
Weather was 80+ degrees, windows down, stereo on full.

I was buzzing through the gears and hit 7500+ rpm!!
( I wasn't paying attention)
The motor shut down or stopped revving.
I quickly got it into the next gear.

Did I hurt anything?... void warranty???
does Porsche have a rev limiter??

Were you shifting up or down? If you were going up through the gears - I wouldn't worry about it. You probably just hit the rev limiter.

If you were downshifting and grabbed the wrong gear - that could be trouble.

sounds like rev limiter - and by the way you described it you were accelerating and went into a higher gear. Doesn't sound like anything to concern yourself about. When its time for an oil change, have the dealer check it out under warranty.

Rev limiter. It's a safety cut off.

Nothing to fuss over. Just rev. limiter. On track many guys upshift and kicked the limiter all day long including myself.

There can be no protection from overrev if you downshift at too high a speed or shift, lets say, from 6th to 2nd when you are going for 4th. The engine is driven directly by the rear wheels in this situation and electronics cannot intervene. Damage to the engine caused by this type of overrev is generally cause for denial of a warranty claim.

Even if no harm done, you can kiss your warranty goodbye. Big brother is watching!
