LOVE THESE THREADS

The 997 is a great sports car.....the Turbo.....ANY Turbo......is a legend. The question is are you ready to step up?

Clubber, drive a Turbo......just once.......and this thread will seem as silly to you as it does to me

When I run 27lbs of boost through my 347 at 8,000rpm - I have an A4 block, Cola crank, Manley rods / pistons to handle the stress.

It's the same with the TT and GT3, the mechanicals are considerably more robust than what's in the 997. The basic 3.6 or 3.8 is a good engine but just talk to any mechanic and they'll tell you it's not the same stuff that rotates in a TT or GT3. A base 3.6 or 3.8 is designed to do what it does, for the masses, and not much more. The best parts go into the TT and GT3.
27lbs of boost?? What kind of blower are you using?

Your point is taken and I can't argue as I don't really know if that is true or not. However, I can only say that I did have a lot of engine related issues with my 2005 996 GT3 which is the main reason I sold it.

Ahhh, this entire arguement is moot for me at this point anyway. I just got word my Turbo is being built this month.

Anyone looking for a really nice, Low Mileage, well optioned, Atlas Grey 997C2S??

The 2005 GT3 engine is very similar to your new turbo engine, as they are all designed on the GT1 dry sump engine.

I was never a huge fan of the 996 look, even the turbo. I love the 997. Its night and day when a 996 and 997 sit side by side. But if your addicted to power the 996 is probably the way to go.

That combo was fed by a special Novi 2000 "renegade" kit from Paxton, cog driven, but the blower ultimately exploded. The main shaft in the head unit failed. I think it was rated for 55,000rpm and i was spinning it more than 80,000. Boom .

I'll be getting rid of my 997s for a 997 TT as well, but in the spring, good luck with your TT. The TTs have amazing potential, I can't wait, should be a lot of fun.

you won't be sorry with either choice. For me, there was no question:

It was the 997 or nothing! A used 997 turbo will definitely be a future option for me too!

Thanks Chris.

I will give him a try next time (probably when the 6-speed Cayenne GTS becomes available)

Yikes! I try to stay naturally aspirated with my Fords. I just built a 408 for my 1995 Lightning. I think if I put a blower on it the rear tires would never stop spinning in any gear.

I had a 996TT and thought it was a great car. However, I didn't really care for the AWD and if you haven't driven one before... do yourself a favor and make sure you like it before "deciding" before you buy. It really is a different driving experience. The boost of the 996TT is addictive. The interior in the 996 is not that great and certainly not on par with a car that cost $115K brand new. The headlight assembly in the 996 always bothered me a bit....but I got past it. I still think the 997 looks better (with a rear wing) and the interior is worlds better than the 996. When I get back into a Porsche it will be a 997(s)....supercharged and will look like this

No not all I was speaking more in terms of desirability.

*edit if you must have the turbo I'd get a 997s and wait till the 997tt prices come down and get that

996 turbo or 997S

I will take 997S over 996 turbo. I always believe a normal aspirated car has better longivity than a turbo. We always use normal aspirated cars on club racing.
