Engine Washing

Hy guys, i want to ask your advice. I keep washing my engine quite often because it gets dirty very quick and i rarely use any kind of wash aid on it,just plain water. Anywai i now noticed that there is a squecking sound in the engine compartiment when the car is not reved and it seems to come from the belt of the engine. I read in the user manual that it is good to wash the engine but apply a engine protection solution or something like that. What is this, where can i find this product? About the squecking i guess there is a special spray i can use to lube the belt but i also don't know wich product to use. Can you give me some advice to how to maintain my engine compartment in top condition......

Do first and ask later? Seeing that you already have been doing this I hope you have been covering the electrical wiring and components, distributor before you start. Then use a engine degreaser to spray the engine. Then just use a hose to wash it off. You should be able to find more detailed info on the net....its PITA as its been awhile since I've done this.

As per the engine did you take it to the dealer? Seems as though you still have warranty since its an '07

Good luck

I have been washing my engine in all my cars for well over 30 years. the one thing I have found to really help out is I wash the engine when it is hot. Then after washing I crank it up and let it run. I also use a battery powered leaf blower to dry it. Between the heat and blower I have never had any problems. I also make sure water does not get down the air intake.

Rah don't worry about a distributor...most modern cars have do not have a distributor anymore. I would worry somewhat of some of the connections even though they are meant to be "weather" proof. I just wouldn't be using ultra-high pressure on connections..just enough pressure to rinse off not to penetrate.

I've always been told the engine should be warm vs. hot as not to crack the block etc. I've also found that if you don't let the dirt accumulate for too long it comes off with a mild degreaser soultion sprayed onto a rag and nothing stronger is really needed.

IMO- Simple Green is biodegradable and works well for engine and under carriage cleaning. Do not use strong chemicals on paint, rubber and, plastic parts. Engine degreasers are too harsh of a chemical for the P-car engine compartment.

Just spray the engine like you would the body of the car. In 40 years of doing so, I have yet to have a problem. Obviously, drive the car for a while afterwards to dry the engine and componants.

I just wipe it down, no washing, I don't go-off roading nor drive it in the rain a little dirt/dust won't hurt the looks of the engine.

If the belt is squeeking, it may need to be tightened. It is not a loss of lubrication problem.
