So my new wheels are almost here and I need to decide what to do with the tires. My car had P-zero Rosso on it when I purchased the car (used) and their dry grip was very good, wet was poor, and were noisy. I bought brand new RE050A N0 tires and had them installed Oct 1. Their dry grip is excellent, wet is superb, and noise is average (quiter than the P-zero). So I am thinking should I save the money and just transfer the RE050A over to the new aftermarket wheels, or get new tires for them. And if new tires, are the PS2 honestly $600+ better (a set) than the RE050A? I am guessing the PS2 are at best 10% a better tire if that. Thoughts please!

 

From all I've read, PS2's are the best, but you are right, I'm not sure if they are $600 better, as I've never driven on the bridgestones. I know for a fact they are better than my old Pirelli PZero Tires.

 

Don't go with the RE050A's, they're fine for a honda S2000, which is what they come on stock but not a 997 IMO.

 

I had two set of Bridgestone Pole Positions. Now I am on my second set of PS2's. Have not tried the new Bridgestones. I buy everything the Tire Rack recommends. Call the Tire Rack. They will know what is best for your car. They try them all on their track, and they know what is best. They really do. The money part is up to you.

 

I have the RE050A now and they are great. And what is wrong with a Honda S2000? That car is probably considered by many to be a superior handling car than a 997. If a S2000 had the same power output as a 997, I am sure it would eat the 997 alive on a track.

 

Advan Neova's, amazing dry traction and a very good wet weather tire. Same price as PS2.

there's also two versions. re050a an re050A Pole Positions. you want the latter and i'd rather have the BS over the PS2s as they offer the same level of grip/perf/reliability.

I hate to burst your bubble - i owned an S2000 for 18 months and only recently stepped up to the 997 'S'. Its a fantastic car, i stated nothing to the contrary. My post implied that the tires are okay for a car like the S2K where it does have 115 hp less and considerably less weight to endure.

For the 997 I believe the tires dont have enough grip. We're all entitled to our opinions, next time try not to be so hostile, savvy?

I think the Bridgestones are coming up! The Nissan GTR used them to achieve their Nurburgring laptime recently, and I think that those are 20 inch tires.

I think Porsche still tunes their cars with Michelins, although I have seen quite a few turbos at the dealership come in on Bridgestones.

 

The pole positions have superior grip but their disadvantage is that they cannot be flipped and remounted to extend their longevity if they get worn badly IIRC something due to the directional tread.

My friend has the PS2's and he says those are the best he had...don't know anyone with re050a but that doesn't mean they aren't any good. I think it depends on how much you want to spend. If you are looking for the best and want to spend the money then get the PS2....then again it all depends on kind of abusive you really will put on the tires.

The RE050's are a OEM tire aren't they?? Either way they have exceptional grip I just think they weight a ton, I know it's only 3-4lbs but 12lbs total rotational mass is kind of a big deal to me so the extra money spent in this area will be worth it.

This may be a theoretical question. Whatever high performance tires are fitted to a 997, particularly to the rear, they are not long for this world. Tire life on a 997 is low & once they are 2/3 worn they should be changed out anyway. Put the Bridgestones on and use them up. You will be purchasing new PS2's before you know it.
