300cel cats

Apparently AWE no longer makes 300cel cats. Does anyone know any other manufacturers that make 300cel cats outside of Remus?

Thanks!

AWE makes 200cel cats,,,,why not buy those. My only concern is will you pass emissions and will a trigger a funky light on the car. I could be wrong, but last time I talked to them the above was not a concern.

If you want to custom build a new cat pipe you can use Random Technologies metallic cat. That being said I have the AWE 200 cpi cats with no issues now for almost a year. A lot of the issues with 200cpi cats is the quality of the cat and the placement of the post cat 02 sensors. AWE has done their homework. AWE uses a high quality HJS cat..

Hi Dave -

Do you know if you have any smog or emissions issue with the 200cpi cats? My understanding was that one would run into smog/emissions issue with 200cpi cats.

Thanks!

That's not the issue with 200cpi cats, maybe 100 cpi cats but not 200. Now that is as far as the sniffer, as far as the letter of the law is concerned it is illegal to remove a properly functioning cat. Depending on the state you live this may or may not be an issue. In Ca. a new car doesn't have to be smogged for 5-7 years as the new car emissions warranty in Ca. is for 7 years now. My E46 M3 with 100cpi race cats on start up smelled as if there were no cats there at all until the car was warmed up, I don't have this at all with the 997S and 200 cpi AWE cats.

BTW, here's a inexpensive 300cpi metallic subtrate cat that a lot of Mustang guys are using..you want the CVM11 which is the 2.5" Metallic cat not the ceramic.

These have proven to be quite durable and alot of guys with 600+rwhp Shelby GT500's as well as Terminator 03/04 SVT's.

Thanks Mike for your input. Few questions for you:

1. Will these trigger the CEL?
2. Are there any issues with smogs/emissions in CA?
3. Why did AWE decide to eliminate the 300 cell model?
4. What are the performance differences between 200 vs. 300 cell?
5. I hear 200 cell cats in NA cars typically deteriorate over a few years. Does AWE provide any guarantees on this?

Thanks!

No. This is currently the only cat that we have found that will not trigger the CEL. It works even better than the 300 cell units we used to use. Cat technology has improved on low cell count versions, and we took advantage of it.

2. Are there any issues with smogs/emissions in CA?
Not with the tailpipe or OBD check, but since they remove the OEM cats, you technically would be in violation of the visual check. This is true for anybody’s aftermarket cat sections, and anybody that brags that they are 100% emissions compliant does not have your best interests at heart.

3. Why did AWE decide to eliminate the 300 cell model?
See above. Cat technology has improved, and the newer Porsches are even more sensitive to setting off the CEL with low cell count cats. HJS is the ONLY cat that will not do this on a modern German car. We tried many other cats over the last few years, but the German HJS ones are the only ones that work. They are much more expensive than the 300 cell units we used to use, which is why we had to raise the price on a cat sections a year ago.

4. What are the performance differences between 200 vs. 300 cell?
Negligible. 200 cell is maybe 2-3 hp more.

5. I hear 200 cell cats in NA cars typically deteriorate over a few years. Does AWE provide any guarantees on this?
Our warranty from the cat manufacturer is 1 year, which we pass onto the customer.

I hope these answers help with your decision.
