Track tire recommendations?

I am looking for some feedback on track tires. I will be using my factory 997S wheel as my track wheels (19s). Any recommendations on tires would be appreciated. I have 6 years of track experience but 99% of that time was in a 993 running on 17s with Hoosiers. What is the best 19" track tire that fits our stock rims? Please be sure to tell me WHY you think they are best...

Thanks in advance!

You have a couple of choices:

Just put a set of comp tires on your stock rims (Corsa, Sport-Cup); the GT3 sizes should fit fine.

Since you have track experience .. You would be better off getting a spare set of 18" track rims like CCW or BBS and run comp/slicks like Toyo RA1/R888 or Hoosiers A6/R6.

+1 for MPSC

Very good DOT-R tire. IMO, better than RA-1's in performance, but much shorter life in respect to heat cycles. Unfortunately, RA-1's don't come in 19's. Corsa's for me were the least performing tire...

19" track tires are tough. The pilot Sport Cup would be my choice.

On my 997 C4S, I am running stock wheels (19") with Michelin Pilot Sport Cups. They dont last very long, but my car handles 100 times better. I am currently running at Sebring, Homestead and Moroso.

Haven't run them yet but I'm going to pick up a set of Toyo R888 for my stockers as they are being made in 235 and 295 for 19" Porsche fitments...

Reasoning: IMO Sport Cups are a lousy auto-x tire (particularly here in the cold PacNW) and I plan on doing both auto-x and lapping days.

The R888 is supposed to have the same rubber as the NT01 so I'm hoping it'll be somewhat like the Toyo RA1 and be somewhat decent with a lot of heat cycles.

Any one running the Yokohama A048R? I have a set of stock 18" x 8 and 18 x 10's that I will run on my C2S.

I have the R888's and they are better than the RA1's ... well worth the $300 per tire!!!

I run 18's Toyo RA1 for my track tires on my C2S. Now that they are getting worn down they are handling much better. Next time around I am getting Toyo R888 or Nitto NT01.

19" track tires cost way too much!

Thanks for the feedback! Looking forward to giving them a try. If I already had 18" wheels I'd certainly use them but since I already have my stock 19"s I'll just pony up for the 19" R888s.

I am running the 888's on 19" F110's and my car is getting faster and faster, especially in the corners...

By the way... the 888's are technically directional tires but we have swapped them around with no problems on the track... apparently the "directional" indication is only a factor when driving in the rain...

I usually skip auto-x in the rain and try to wait for a dry day for HPDE.

Sometimes that's tough to do here in Seattle.

Good to know they can be flipped - I just got an alignment and wasn't able to get more than 1.5 degrees of - camber so I imagine the outside corners are going to take a beating at the track...

There is an adjustment you can make to the car to get it to 1.8 or 1.9 without the cup control arms... I can ask my shop guy what he did if you're interested...

I'm definitely interested.

I didn't want to spend the $$$ for the GT3 arms since this won't be a dedicated track **** for me...
