What Upgrade To Do First For The Track
What Upgrade To Do First For The Track
I have a 997S got a B-K harness bar with 6 pt harness with the adaptic sport seats but really need racing seats...also have i think maxed out my times on PS2's (running low 30's at sebring)
also maxed out my camber without any extra (really minimal) about 1.2 front and rear.
thinking of
a- switching to slicks or pilot cups
b- get gt3 seats and roll bar
c- gt3 control arms and increase camber...
wife
forces me not to do all at once....
I would like to get the seats first as they are also very cool and the rollbar would allow me to runwith a faster group requiring rollbar and raceseats with harnesses thru seat..
any ideas and manufacturers of any of the above would be appreciated...

it is kind of fun when i overtake a 997 gt3 or Z06 with slicks and racing seats etc with my poor PS2's...jsut trying to talk myself into getting one of those little trailers for the slicks....pilot cups seem a bit of a compromise and expensive...would rather downsize the wheels to 18's and go with slicks
toyo 888's i hear good things about ...MPSC's?

thanks MDRUMS and all..
will look into the tires and trying to get the 18's with r888's or nitto...didn't know there were any other options other than the pilot cups so i could DRIVE to the track. ( i guess it is the only option if i kept the 19" rims) but no i know......still not ready to do the trailer thing. a one year old child has stripped me of most of my energy so minimizing work to get to the track is important.
gt3 seats are on order...and as far as the pads, i have the ceramics and i worry about warranty issues with the ceramics and other brake pads....
rollbar any suggestions other than porsche? or just get the porsche one...also they said could save 600 bucks and use the 996 porshce rollbar which actually does fit the 997....anyone has experience with this?
but maybe others have had good luck with other after market pads ...i wasn't aware of other pads that could be used with the ceramics...
I also assume that in order for the new tires to work well i am going to have to fork up for the gt3 control arms to get enough camber (> 1.9'?) to have the tires work well ..
track time is very addictive and seems to be endless what we can do to the cars....perhaps one day just get a gt3 cup race car....ooops forgot, would have to get a trailer...

WILL be at homestead feb 17th and try to hit at least one chin per month like it better than most because of the long track times...
Haven't done PCa
Like PBOC but short run times and seems to me that everyone fixes their cars up before maxing out their stock cars as far as driving ability...passed so many faster cars with slicks and race seats etc...that is one reason I am waiting , but I think I will never get to the max of the car but I think the gt3 control arms with the camber and R compound will really help..also those seats...guess the baby won't eat this month
I have black 997S usually run #55, and I am the asian guy( although met quite a few of my bros here ...
Hope to see you out there...
Hard to socialize right now due to the one yr old baby.......

Chin doesn't have a school for instructors. It is my understanding that if you think you are ready, you get a recommendation from one of the senior guys (Mark Hicks, Chin, or one of the other instructors who know how you drive and then there is an instructor orientation where i think you pretty much give up most of a day at Chin and they go over everything with you...I think it is a one day deal but not sure ..my personal experience is not that long, but i have been to sebring over 30 times, homestead a couple, mid ohio a couple yrs ago and did Panoz 3 day racing school recently before they closed at Road Atlanta...with SCCA license in the works and some SOLO autocross experience. . would love to do other tracks but with the baby it ain't happening. also Chin states that many racers do not make good instructors so driving alone doesn't make you a sure IN. Also the ability to teach (if you have experience in your career teaching ie DRS, TEACHERS, COACHES ETC) is helpful....
so bascially give Mark Hicks an e mail with your experience and get one of the guys to give you a rec...I have been behind Hicks of couple of times and also with Chip V. with his silver GT3 and kept upwith them so they know how i drive...even with street ps2's
. good luck ..will be at homestead in FEB maybe see you there? will try to make sebring march but short track (i like long track much better)
