[quote=frafoss;1664986]The standard Carrera is in my opinon underrated. At a track in Germany I tested a roling start against 4S with power kit. Ok, he had a passanger, but I got the better of him (track was dry), then he came to my door but couldn't get away. When straight wash finished, its long, I was still in front.

I would be nice to say that the driver did the differece, but not in this case.[/quote
Thats one of the reasons why I bought the c2 ,Plus price.I figured I could do alot more with the money i saved to make the car better with mods.

Do you know if the X51 C4S was a tip?

Man I'd be a very unhappy camper if my 381 hp C4S could not pull on a standard C2, epsecially from a roll which would help out with the additional weight of the all wheel drive and passenger...

The argument for not getting a 4wd car unless you really need 4wd. Hundreds of pounds (300?) is significant. Now add a passenger.....Sucks the life out of what is, after all, a small displacement engine

I wouldnt expect a R8 or a C2S you catch up to a C2 or even a 330ci when with 3-4 car lenghts start... Thats just saying you are 2x faster thats hard as **** to do with any car

Both cars with short shirft manual transmission. It was actually out of the Coca Cola turn into the long (very long) straight at the Nürnburgring GP track. He was actually at my rear all laps since he had a bit more traction because of Michelin Cup tires compared to my PS2. He slipstreamed me out of the Coca Cola turn, and turned out to pass me for several laps with the same result as told.

Yes, he wasn't very happy with the result. He asked me afterwards what mods I hade done and I told him honestly about the Preformance friction brake pads other wise all stock. His passenger told later that night the he had cursed continouis the whole session, about how the f... that Carrera was going. Sad for him, nice for me

If I were him I'd go get my car dynoed...it would also be interesting to see if your C2 is putting out more than the 325 hp it's supposed to...maybe you got one that produces power at the very high end of the specs .

I think his car was in perfect shape. It stored and served all year by Manthey Racing, who are considered best in class. Maybe I got lucky, but I will never now because there are no dynos in the area I thrust. I don't actually care either.

I wasn't thinking the car was not maintained or running properly; but if I were him I'd be rather curious to see if the engine was putting out the power it should be (especially since he paid all that extra $$$ for X51).

You really need to pay more attention to power/wt rather than HP figures. The x51 is carrying 300 lbs or so for 4wd plus options and a passenger. If his passenger is 200 lbs, thats 56 horsepower to lug an extra 500 lbs. Simply not enough especially if you factor in drivetrain loss for the 4cs. The x51 is a nice engine but it simply is not that much faster than an S. The dude should've bought a turbo if he wanted to be quicker. The Euro mags speak very favorably for the standard C and no one who bought one should question that.

Good thoughts. I too mentioned the weight factor a few posts above but also considered that the cars took off from a rolling start thinking the extra weight then may not be as much of a hinderance @ speed allowing the extra hp to shine. I can't remember the formula but torque was the biggest factor in initial acceleration then horsepower comes into play as the speed increases or something to that effect. I have heard many good things about the X package but every once in a while someone gets an X51 car on the track vs. an S without it and the X driver comes away dissapointed that he coudn't shake the non X S.

Carrera 1395 kilos
Carrera 4S, 1475 kilos

The passenger was in the feather light class, 5,1-5,2 feets and about 60 kilos I guess.

i know car and driver has done a 3.9 60MPH and 12.1 1/4 in a 997S NON X51, regular 997's are NOT doing those numbers. sorry. S's are VERY under rated and people don't give them much credit, i think for the money with a good driver the 997S is one of the best cars currently made. i understand this is two completely different situations with two completely different cars but my buddy has a 430WHP EVO and has DUSTED F430's and 996 Turbos off the line, but from a roll he got absolutely smoked by a 997S with headers and exhaust. by 100mph the 997S was 3 cars in front of him.

Hey. My car is an S. Good to hear I can smoke 430's. Ask you buddy what exhaust I should buy. Btw, when the 997 first came out the fastest test time in Europe was held by a standard car. It was beaten at some point.(Weissach has those times somewhere but why bother?) It was those R&T S times that prompted me to buy my car. It was finally faster than a vette. Probably on the fast side but whenever I can't sleep I pull out that comparo. Glad you like the S. Relax, it's all good. gerry
