That seems very, very odd.
This is a facelift. Now we are adding new engines and putting cars on diets. I wouldn't lose sleep over this. Not too much, anyway I'm still loving the 964's and the 993's, etc. Why worry about my 997 becoming outdated?

omg my 997 is already dated.

they are making changes way too fast that's why the resale value is suffering.

The 996/997 Carrera "integrated dry-sump" engine block, is really a modified wet-sump engine. It seems to be all the rage now, since they use less oil, save weight, less emissions and better gas mileage. The v10 in the BMW M5 and v8 in the new M3 are using a highly modified wet-sump engine also, designed to withstand 1.4G's.

I think AMG engines still use dry-sump, IIRC. The 911 Turbo and GT3 are definitely true dry-sump engines derived from the GT1 engine block.

You need to drive more and spend less time worrying.

That's interesting.

Again, I only have a layman's understanding of wet vs. dry sump but I'm surprised to see Porsche move away from the dry sump set up.

Another interesting factoid is that my local BMW dealer says that BMW has thus far not accepted the V10 motors in the current M5 and M6 into their Certified Pre-Owned program. He suspects that BMW will also not take the new V8 in the new E92 M3. Internet lore is that some engineers from Honda tore apart a few of the V10's (Honda is reportedly working on their own V10 for the next Gen (if it ever really happens) NSX) and these Honda engineers felt that the motor would not last 100,000 miles without significant failures. I don't know if that's true or not but a little scary if you ask me.

hummm

I think the MAJOR reason for the update is to justify a major price hike. Somehow, I feel the weaker dollar is effecting Porsche in the US market in a very bad way.

Its been 3 years with Nothing changed. Not one thing. The 996 went through the same after 3 years. It's obvious that they are doing some tweaking. I'll wait until I see official stuff before I start running around telling people.

hahha. yeah, i am driving as much as i can. it does get used on regular basis, not a garage queen or sunny day out. Heck, if the new design appeals to me, i will just trade it in. No worries. what's the fun if u can't drive ur car all year long.
