997 Facelift
997 Facelift
Some news from a dealer on the 997 facelift.
The powerpack must seem like an even more expensive option now....
Maybe this will finally bring the first 97s into my price range.

Just been at Porsche this morning...gleaned/blagged this from them: -
Deposits (3-5K) now being unofficially taken for 997 Facelift car - for AUGUST 2008 Delivery.
1. DDI injection S models with standard 380 BHP, standard carerra now upto 350 BHP.
2. New Rear Light clusters, slightly narrower with LED lights.
3. New Rear Bumper/PU (think this has been well documented).
4. New Front Bumper/PU again this seems to be well known.
5. New Headlights.
6. New Standard and Optional Alloys.
7. New Touchscreen SAT Navigation System & Bluetooth
8. New DASH, apparently completely reworking of the Interior...more options
Last build slot for current 997 is April 2008. Apparently Porsche GB/Reading have a new car with
some or all of the above, under wraps for evaluation/feedback (their words not mine!)

Great read , thanks for posting it.
I do have inquisitive comments and ideas --
1) The quoted post seems to be European and in past models like the 996 there was a delay in timeline before the car made its way to showrooms in the States . I wonder who gets the car first.
2) Photos show the LED light cars ranging from the Boxter to the Turbo . I have never seen Porsche redesign an entire line up in one model year .
I wonder which cars get it first .
3) Cars like the Turbo Cab and Gt2 are so new . I wonder why they were released only to be revised before most owners even changed the oil.
4) Porsche gave a two year unlimited mileage warranty with the 993 and then bumped up to four year 50K mi with the 996 and 997 . I wonder if this will continue.

Its a facelift from what I understand rather than a redesign. Think 2003 version of 996.
When porsche did this for the 996 it was the entire model range that benefitted from the modifications to interior and so on.
According to other rumors I have read the Turbo is having its power hiked to 500 bhp. Porsche will do what they need to do to keep selling cars.
In Europe UK market is usually behind the rest of Europe for getting new models due to the RHD, LHD difference. Not sure however if UK normally get there cars before US or other way around......
Fact that Reading HQ in UK has a mock up one already would suggest however that there will be no delay. So that at the end of the year when you order 2009 model this is what you will recieve.

2002 996 received 996TT headlight among a few other things...

I too have a C2S Cab on order for an April build and am having a very hard time deciding whether to wait or get the cab in May. The cosmetic changes don't concern me as much as the possible bump in performance and depreciation that may occur with having the later end 08. Please HELP me make a decision. Also the wait may be longer than Aug/Sep due to the waitlist for the 09 refresh!

Course, the other factors are 1.) the changes sometimes do not seem large 2.) that there all always some people that flat-out do not like the changes.....some enough that they skip a run altogether (or leave a marque).
Great points. After discussion with the dealer, I've decided to stay with my April build and start enjoying the Cab in May. Who knows, luck may have it that the new Direct Injection may have issues...(just justifying my decision ;P )
What I meant by perhaps this will bring the 97's in my price range is that over here in Europe I cant afford to buy a new one
Facelift models normally have a nice effect on early models prices. (Nice if you are after buying one anyway). I am certainly be going to watch the prices of the 997 with interest. The fact that these cars are being produced in larger numbers than the 996 suggests that maybe prices will do something similar although hard to tell as I think the 997s will be better loved than the previous 996s.

Many of the "updates" I don't care about. The performance update is the only one that piques my interest, and if it is 15 horses, I'll be content with my 08.
In fact, iif I wait for the facelift, I won't be able to drive my car in two months from now and won't get the double-digit % discount. So, for me, there was no reason to wait.
