Well from earlier in this thread (page 2), this table was posted.

Range 1: 7300-7500 RPM
Range 2: 7500-7700 RPM
Range 3: 7700-7900 RPM
Range 4: 7900-8400 RPM
Range 5: 8400-9500 RPM
Range 6: 9500-11000 RPM

So I'm assuming range/level 4 would be a very bad downshift, rather than something you could actually attain by spirited driving to the limiter.

Thread revival. currently looking at a 2008 997TT with the following DME numbers:

Range 1: 2069/1669.4h
Range 2: 671/1669.4h
Range 3: 275/1602.5h
Range 4: 146/1602.5
Range 5: 1/306.4
Range 6: 0

Porsche dealer says the car is in great shape and has not been overreved

Should I be concerned?

thanks

Considering per Porsche any warranty would be voided with those ranges of over-revs I'd say take a pass.

Will they certify it? The range 5 is negligible. Also, seems that the car had higher mileage, how many miles and what are the current hours? Close to the last over Rev? The count is not that bad, but if it's from a Porsche dealer, peace of mind would come in cpo.

Unless it's the last one in the world I'd pass. Try bringing in a car w those #'s. How do you think it would go? I will say this however. General rule re this stuff (i am regurgitating what I have read online here) is that if there is no engine light within 40 hours running time since over rev there is assumed to be no damage but still....there may be better choices. Good luck

Dealer lied! I would pass unless I get it dirt cheap and after a satisfactory PPI.

Keep in mind this is a turbo, not a regular 997. They tend to have more overrevs. Post in the turbo section for more appropriate responses.

I thought Porsche would refuse to "CPO" a car that had too much going on in the 4-6 range...

If enough engine time has passed since over-rev event, you may find PCNA willing to CPO. Good article on over-revs in December Excellence.

thanks everyone for your responses. The car has 50k on the clock and the dealer is not one bit concerned about the numbers. The car is not CPO hence my concerns. Manager said he has no problems selling extended warranty with these DME results. Overall, the car seems to be in great shape, except for a possible "lazy" actuator on drivers side that seems to be sticking a bit.

I hate to be so cynical, but why would the dealer be concerned...it's your money buying the car, not his.

Thanks everyone, I have decided to pass on this one. Too many issues and on top of everything else, car's passenger side has been re-sprayed but nothing showed up on car fax
