Changing battery

For almost 3 weeks I have noticed that my car ( the C2S) does not start regularly. It takes like 2-3 sec's. I can feel the ignition rotates slower than what it should. I’m 90% sure that battery needs to be changed.

Right now I’m shipping my car to California for an exotic cars run so I don’t have time to take it to the dealer. My questions are Can I change the battery by myself? What kind of battery should I buy?

Thank you

I hope your kidding. JUST change the battery with the engine off. Why would you get a fault?

I understand your concern, as I had a similar one when I disconnected my battery to install a new steering wheel recently. Given the complexity of the PCM etc, I was concerned that loss of voltage would trigger weird faults etc. However, disconnection does not do anything other than cause the PSM to recalibrate itself for the first minute or so after re-connecting. You simply drive the car and it re-sets. It is covered in the manual, but it was a no-brainer. In the case of my cab, and I expect the coupe is the same, you may need to put the windows down and up so that the car can re-learn where the up position is. Again, a no brainer.

mishref is infamous around these parts
I would not change the battery while the car is running .. I have swapped batteries a couple of times and its very simple. A couple of things to keep in mind when you swap batteries (when the car is off):

You will get a pasm/psm failure which will reset a couple km after driving. You also need to reset your window height (I think you will need to push up for 5 seconds). Its quite easy to do and listed out in the manual.

Don't do that! Make sure you order the right battery & have the right tools to changer that battery. You don't need to reprogram your car again, if so just go buy another P-car. Just kidding!

Don't just unplug the old battery and plug in the new battery.

Get one of those 'car battery power station' from Sears or Target, about $50.

Plug it into the 12V cigarette lighter adapter in the cabin, and then disconnect the old battery. This way we won't need to reprogram the radio, etc. Put in and connect the new battery, and then disconnect the power station.

I have done it in my Boxster S, and it worked well.

Buy the Porsche Battery Maintainer, I plug mine almost every weekend. Once a week, it only requires an over night charge. Plugs into the cigarette/accesory plug.
