New M3 experience?
Interesting 0-100 mph data etc
Road and Track shows the Porsche GT3RS doing 0-100 in 9.2 with the M3 at 9.4 in the road test summary...not too dusty. In the most recent test of a GT3RS (March issue) they tested a GT3RS against a C2S where the GT3RS did 0-100 in 9.0, but even a .4 difference speaks highly about the little M3's performance....the C2S did 0-100 in 10.3 almost a full second slower. The Q/M trap speed of the M3 was 114.8 mph and the C2S in the March test was 111.9 mph; even using the C2S's best #'s from the old R&t test the little M3 had the same trap speed in the Q/M.
The M3 will be a force to be reckoned with on the street* or drap strip. I am very curious to see how much the DFI 997's # will improve over the current cars.
* I do not endorse street racing.

watch the drag, the GT3 walked it like a little *****.

m3 wasnt the fastest, didnt trap the highest, didnt brake the best, but was better on a track (as it should be given its nature and wieght advantage).
The power to weight ratios of these cars is extremely close, if you can take advantage of the 997S's traction advantage it will probably just inch by a M3.
Either way I personally think the M3 is the best bang for the buck for a marquee name vehicle.

I'm not sure I agree, but if what you are saying is true then the #'s are not accurate for all the cars they test including Porsches right?
I guess what's good for the goose...
I test drove the E92 M-3 this week. More impressive than expected. Superb engine.Better seats than E46 and better ride than E46 or CS in reg. mode. Tough to judge on a test ride with a salesman on board BUT it seemed like more of the same. The car is more solid than the E46 and it feels like the handling limits are higher. Steering very light at low speeds. Brakes good but lacking in pedal feel. Shifting a bit rubbery and clutch very light.
I like the car and had I not gone from the E46 to a CS, my perception might be different. To me the Porsche is much more "alive" in my hands. Everything about its driving dynamics is more direct and communicative.
Perhaps if I could wrap myself around the styling inside and out and if the M weren't so heavy, I would not be a lukewarm about the new M-3.
Value--yes--in pure bang for buck--M-3 wins. But TO ME, the added value in the P car is how I feel about it. When I look at in in my garage, when I am walking to it in a parking lot, etc. all I keep thinking is ---wow--that's MY car. That warm fuzzzy feeling is worth the extra $$. I like M-3s alot but I love the 997S. (ps..no one ever sat in the back seat of my M-3 the 4 years I owned it)

not sure
I went up there to get some oil for my MINI S. I just wanted to see it up close and personal. The car was sitting out front with a plate on it. I asked the salesman when the converts were coming. He said---60-90 days--do you want to test drive the coupe?
While on the test drive we did discuss other stealers marking up and selling their demos. This dealership plays by the rules. IMHO--test drives sell cars and well run businesses think big picture.
I have a friend with a deposit on a car at another local dealer and they won't let him test drive one. If that was me, I'd take my deposit back and go elsewhere.

When I have a moment, I'll go dry the one near my house. There are 2 dealerships under the United name (www.unitedbmw.com) - both are owned by Roger Penske, both are part of a publicly traded company, and neither is allowed to mark up over MSRP.
New to this board and glad I found it because it is an incredible resource. I just ordered the new M3, but it will be a few months before it's in. In the meantime, the wife has finally given the ok for a P-car if it's the same price or cheaper. Have found an '07 C2 with ~2K miles for 69K, '06 C2 with 8K miles for 65K, and an '05 C2S with 4K miles for 69K. All are asking prices only of course. Am I crazy for considering a base C2 over the M3? The reason I'm even thinking this is that I live in the city and my e46 M3 has more than enough power for me and I probably don't need the extra HP of the V8...thanks
