Dealer Oil Change
Castrol Edge? Is that something new?
My dealer over-filled mine as part of the $800 oil change, which also showed being charged for 10 quarts. I decided to give it a little time to see if the issue self-corrected, but after 1000 miles and 3 months it still showed over-filled, so I took it back last week and told them to remove some oil. I wanted to document that they had to remove excess oil they had put in. It is fine now.
The one closed to me only charge 250
I believe its a UK product .. on the Porsche approved oil list of WW/RoW vehicles.
- Full Synthetic engine oil
- SAE 5W40 – excellent low temperature flow for superior protection right from start up.
- Helps to deliver the all important boost in engine power
- Deliver superior thermal stability, ensuring minimal engine deposits for cleaner internals
- Ensures engine protection from the first moment of ignition, minimizing wear and damage
- Exceeds high performance standards set by premium car manufactures including all modern Europeans and Japanese prestige vehicles
- Meets modern emission systems’ needs
- Uses synthetic technology to deliver improved performance over conventional oil
It was one of the few in Orange County, where there are too many people with too much money, so they get away with it.
I'd like to see a copy of that invoice that says $800 for just an oil change. The going rate is maybe $250 and I just got a mailer from my dealer for $170 for a limited time.
There must be more to the story.

It was $799 plus some BS taxes etc for total of $832 for the 20k service, which essentially consisted of the oil & filter change, cabin filter change, and a check of fluids, belts, tires, etc. Local licensed Porsche shop used by many in the OC Region PCA club said they would have done it for $265. I would be glad to provide a copy of the invoice if you don't believe it.
This is probably the 20k/2 year service. Still a silly price but not really "just an oil change". They usually charge around this figure. Origional poster must have known that. As has been said, find a good independent shop if you care. I have.
It is actually a very fun project. Probably about $80 in oil (Mobil 1), filter, and gaskets. If you take your time it will take you 1-1 1/2 hours. I didn't need to jack the car up or drive up ramps. Torqued everything to spec ( I am sure some dealers won't). Well documented here in the forums and plus you get to know the car better.
