Dealer Oil Change

I usually change my own oil, but decided to let the dealer do it, so the oil change was documented during the two year service.

They put in 10 quarts. I know it takes slightly less than nine. Any problems running with 10 quarts?

Only if they actually did and if it reads on the electronic gauge that it is overfilled.

The indicator shows full all the way to the top line.

My dealer over-filled mine as part of the $800 oil change, which also showed being charged for 10 quarts. I decided to give it a little time to see if the issue self-corrected, but after 1000 miles and 3 months it still showed over-filled, so I took it back last week and told them to remove some oil. I wanted to document that they had to remove excess oil they had put in. It is fine now.

I bring my own oil (Castrol Edge 5w-40) which runs me roughly 100$ for 9 liters (10qt) .. dealer does the filter/labor for 75$.

I do a lot of oil changes due to the track days I do so with a filter change I've never got more than around 8 3/4 quarts of oil back into the car. 10 quarts is WAY to much oil!

It is actually a very fun project. Probably about $80 in oil (Mobil 1), filter, and gaskets. If you take your time it will take you 1-1 1/2 hours. I didn't need to jack the car up or drive up ramps. Torqued everything to spec ( I am sure some dealers won't). Well documented here in the forums and plus you get to know the car better.

I think I've seen similar horror stories in other parts of the country, but SoCal seems to be the rip-off capital. They got me once, but won't again. Next time I'll do it myself.

Definitely, I do my own oil changes as well, but the only reason I take it to the dealerships is for them to turn off the service engine light and it's friggin cold here as well.
