Fair price for 05 997 C2?
I was recently offered a trade in value of 53K for my 05 997 Black on black. Another dealer offered 60K, with the 07 997 Targa (New) at MSRP. So, I figured both offered around 53K. And they would return to stock (headers, winter tires, steering wheel and shifter exchange, etc). Less than 10K miles, Black on black, Electric seat w/memory, Bose, Bi-Xenon, heated seats, 6 disk changer, 19 Sport Designs.
So, if a dealer would give 53K, the original asking price may not have been that far off, depending upon your area.
I would not sell mine for less than 58K, but then that would include a couple sets of tires, full clear bra, chip upgrade, headers, steering wheels & shifter, and some other goodies.
I also drove an 06 997S, and the difference in power was less than what I expected. I preferred the 3.6 after driving the 3.8. The Base 3.6L engine is reduced in power to make the 3.8L engine seem that better IMHO. Changing the software immediately got rid of the hole in the RPM band at 3K, and made the engine much more drivable. Since I don't drag race on the streets, gave up drag racing in general after my Hemi days, and only autocross; the top end HP rating are rather meaningless to me. Maybe, if I track the car, they may become more meaningful.. but for day to day fun, the 3.6 base Carrera is a great car.
I also drove a Boxster 2.7 and Boxster S 3.4. Could definitely tell the loss in power with the 2.7, but was still a wonderful engine and driving car. The 3.4 was a blast (seemingly a 3.6L with a shorter stroke).
You need to drive a Base and an 'S', and see if the difference is there for you. Also, look at the car you are considering, and see if the care taken of the car is represented in the price asked.
Good luck

First of all, I wouldn't buy it with those many miles. Too many potential problems! As example, my '07 997 base with aftermarket 19"wheels,heated seats, xenon light was appraised 3 months ago with 600 miles for 62k. Sticker was $79k. Of course I didn't sell it! I am hoping to get a couple k more for it (now 1100 miles). PM me if you're interested.
I figured mileage wouldnt be so detrimental for p-cars. I know they are solid if they are well taken care for. I surely dont want a 997 with 5000 miles to turn up with an RMS leak issue outside of warranty.
I imagine a 25 000mi 997 to be well broken in, most issued should have surfaced. I also dont think an rms issue would pop up after that many miles...Granted, there will be more wear on some items...I dunno, maybe my logic is all wrong about the mileage though?
Thanks
Dan

The miles are not as much a factor of reliability as the sentintiment of used car Porsche buyers . RMS , although somewhat of a concern is not as major of an issue on 997 cars as withg the 996 of the past.
Pure and simple - Pcars sell better with low miles .
The first big hit is at 10K miles .
The biggest hit is at 50K .
27K places you close enough to 50 to hit it right when the warranty expires .
Once the car has 50K , no warranty, no options, and begins to face problems --- that's when you will remember my posts. Of course you could hear me out now . Or wait till then and say "yrralis1 told me so" --or you could avoid the entire mess and look for another car . 10K more now gets you the whole shin dig. The S ,the low miles, the options, the warranty, the full monte.

What problems will occur after 50,000 miles?
Why would a Porsche car start to have problems after 50k miles? I thought that modern cars are good for 100k miles with minimal problems--just general maintenance expenses. Be specific.
BUT it's not cheap to repair a Porsche out of warranty if a problem does arise . Plus routine wear maintenance isn't cheap either after 50K .
EVERY car faces resale depreciation when it crosses 50K but with Porsches mileage does matter .
The test --
take your Porsche with 9500 miles to any random used car buyer and a majority will say that the buyer sentiment changes greatly when the car crosses 10K .
I know this because I am on my 8th Porsche and my experience (although anecdotal) may benefit others (specifically him) .
His car may have no problems but it is overpriced for what he;s getting in return. With no options and being close to the 50K mark --if he gets the itch to upgrade he will face a big expense which he could avoid right here and now .
Yrralis!
thanks. I think you are right about stretching the budget a little for a 997 S with lower miles, low options. Another issue is when the car will be imported to Canada, i will lose any warranty as CDN Porsche dealers are not covering US cars. I know its obviously a risk, but saving 20000$ from the get go while losing warranty is not a bad deal.
Whats the cost for something major like RMS leak "fix" anyway? How about clutch replacement?
Thanks everybody. Really helping me out on this one!

Sometimes the engine must be extracted from the car but some technicians have found clever ways around it.
RMS ? out of warranty can cause full engine replacement . It's huge but not common with 997 cars . I would not worry about RMS as much as little repairs adding up.
Rear Tires - 800-1K
Oil service - 250
60 K service --major replacing belts and filters -regional pricing .
If you are ready to spend 50K on a three year old high mileage car why not spend 65 and get a two year old low mileage car ?
You are going in deep -- so are most Porsche buyers . Even those who have obscene wealth buy more Porsches or a Ferrari to add to the stable.
We didn't even get to the mods yet .......Look you read Martin . He started out trying to save you money and he ended up sounding a lot like me in the end
BTW -- Dan --I'll show you my car .
I looked through quite a few photos.
A close up of the HRE C20 wheels.
The Techart steering wheel.
The Carbon Intake.
Full Techart aerokit
I had one earlier where I had a huge smile standing next to it but the max is 5 and i liked these the most.
The Engine mods are Tubi exhaust , Evo Headers, Evo Intercoolers . Carbon Intake , GIAC , IBD Plenum .
Suspension --Techart springs
Future possible mods - Pondering Turbo upgrades , Perhaps Gt2 Turbo's , Performance clutch . Coilcovers (Techart ) and a few more odds and ends on the interior.
Right now I like it so much the way it is that no more mods are in the near future.

Dan, what is your source for this information? That is news to me -- I thought the original 4/50 and CPO are both honored on USA cars inported to Canada.
plz...
my source is really just a few board members who mentionned that CDN DEALERS not PCNA are implementing this no coverage bs. I assumed and believed it was true. What is your experience and what part of Canada are you in?
45K Luis!! That would mean starting the nego. at 42K! I dont see it happening though!!!
Thanks
