Question 27 Mile Discrepancy

My car's odo shows 9403 miles and the trip computer's travel data function shows total miles driven as 9430.6 along with 399:47 total hours & mins of operation etc...I wonder why there is a 27 mile difference? I was there when my car came off the truck and saw it only had 3 miles on it. Perhaps the miles were Porsche road testing and they cleared the odo but not the trip computer?

If you have a minute check it on your own cars and see what you guys get.

Thanks.

If it were the other way around, it would make sense if your dealer hadn't reset the PCM prior to delivery. How it says more than the odometer (the "official mileage") is beyond me.

I just spoke with one of the techs at the local P car delaership and he said Porsche (and all makes) are allowed to rest the odo up to 100 miles after they have done testing at the factory...he thinks that maybe during one of the tests, maybe the rattle test, something was heard and the car was driven back to the factory to get corrected then back over the bumps/rattle testing area until they got it right which would account for the extra miles...then they reset the odo but forgot to reset the travel function. He also said he's seen new cars come of the truck with the trip odo showing more miles than the main odo...

I'd be curious to see if anyones else's car had different #'s.

Here's how to check:

1) With ign on press the trip button on pcm

2) Go to travel data and press continuous (continuous may already be selected)

3) Compare the travel data continuous # to your odo.

Thanks.

Does the 27 miles really matter that much? Its not like you can go return your car or be compensated for 27 miles you know.

Never implied I was looking for compensation...just a reasonable explanation.

Yes and no...as long as it was factory testing no. I am more concerned/curious with why I had two different readings and they were not the same plus what caused it, as I've never encountered this before with any of my cars and found it to be quite odd.

How about taking a minute and checking your car and letting me know if your mileage #'s are the same in both areas.

Thanks

I could be wrong but ................. I thought the difference was the mileage of odo 9403 miles and the trip computer 9430.6 miles which will calculate the distance traveled. Anothers words when you go back out the odo will say 9430.6 not 9403 and the trip computer will have the new distance traveled. Damn I hope I explained that right

LOL...yes that's the way it should be but my odo has less mileage than the total distance traveled shown in the PCM.

From what I understand, even in reverse it will still count to the total milage.
