Software a must with high flow cats and mufflers?
Software a must with high flow cats and mufflers?
Wondering what the general concensus is on this? I have had x51 headers, AWE high flow cats and mufflers since October. I am wondering if doing a software upgrade (giac, softronic, or apr) does much of anything in terms of power anywhere across the board? I'm sure it will make for better throttle response, but is the $1k spent on software honestly going to do much of anything else beside from being listed as a mod in my sig?
So ur gonna do the current setup as a baseline and then re-dyno after just the flash correct? Any idea as to when you may be doing this?
Yes that is my plan, the hold up is trying to get a friend with a stock 997S to come as well and then we will use his car as an assumed baseline (I know this isn't 100% accurate) and then do the software update on his car. The timing is going to be tight, I have too many things next weekend and the end of this month I am in Germany for two weeks. It may not be until June.
I have Revo and am probably going to change to Softronic for a variety of reasons. One is that a couple of months ago Porsche issued a service advisory to reflash 997S to change the engine fan programming. I had it done and went over to my Revo dealer and he was unable to put Revo back. A month later, there still is no "updated" Revo for my 997S - so I remain without software.
The beauty of Softronic is you can flash / re-flash yourself. That's what I loved about the Shark Injector I had for my M3. If there's a Porsche re-flash, no problem, you just re-install Softronic.

We apologize for the delay in updating our flash to the new software level Porsche has implemented. Rest assured that the new software in no way affects the performance of your car, and at any time you could have returned to your Revo dealer to get your previous software reloaded, free of charge.
If you were to simply reload the software with your Softronic cable, you would be simply overwriting the new Porsche software with the old version that Softronic supplied you.
When Porsche (or Audi/VW, for that matter) releases a new update, its an immense amount of work to first acquire the new files, then implement those changes into our software and deliver a tested, ready for release product to our network of 100+ dealers.
We have just developed an in-house tool that allows us to acquire the new software directly from the cars, rather than wait for Porsche to supply update CDs. This will greatly speed the process in the future.
Again, I apologize for the delay and please let me know if you need anything further.
Thanks George - it's been frustrating because I paid for the product, enjoyed it while it was current, but now I'm missing all spring track season because your new updated files aren't yet available with no idea of when it might be. You don't realize what you have until you miss it - the throttle map alone was worth getting the Revo and now I'm back to stock...
I've had the Softronic for a few months now and mine is a daily driver. I reflashed it to stock about 2 weeks ago because I was going to take my car in for a DME update and let me tell you that I've noticed a great amount of change. I would definately recommend Softronic

Jay, I have the exact same setup you do, i.e. 997 Carrera S with X51 and full AWE system. I was disappointed by the "uneven" power delivery. I went to a Porsche Race Team (AMLS) in CT which also have a "road department" and they flashed my ECU with their program which programs the engine to better use the extra "breathing" ability. Farnbacher Loles, did a wonderful job and the car feels much stronger and very much smoother. They dyno'ed the car before and after and I gained 16 hp from their program. The HP upgrade using X51 and AWE together is modest though. My car has about 393 HP, whilst before dyno is was at 377 hp, which is below a normal X51 car. This just shows that you need to make sure that all "parts" fit together. I recommend getting your car seen by a professional tuning company which has its own proprietary software. Farnbacher Loles have their own full exhaust that they sell together with software. They put their software on my car though its a AWE exhaust. They made other mods too, such as racing suspension as well as some cosmetic mods. Anyway I hope this helps.

Hi RevoGuys - I sent a PM, but no reply in a couple of days. Wondering if you can give me an ETA on when the updated REVO will be available for my 997S? I do not want to revert to an old version - I'm sure there's a reason why the Porsche update was required. I was also wondering what's the process of moving the REVO from one car to another?
Thanks,
Ron
