PCM Painted to finish out interior

Had the PCM center unit painted gloss black to match black painted air vents and I think just fits perfect to go with the rest of interior. The paint was done by Eric @ Bumperplugs, the finish is outstanding. Obviously the price is too, $400 from Eric compaired to $2200 from Porsche. The price of the option from Porsche has to be the rudist option on the list. After looking at the pics i think I need a nice pedal set. Dam, it never stops does it. Here are a few pics for you to enjoy.

The painted PCM looks great!

Who did this for you (e.g. removal of PCM)? Which black is your PCM painted? How long did this whole process take?

Thanks,

The finish is gloss black and I removed all the stuff myself, have been doing this stuff for a long time. Although, I needed a little help on a few of the little buttons. This is not a job for the faint of heart nor if you dont have any experience taking apart electronics. The entire center stack has to be removed as well as every single button on the, PCM, HVAC Controls and the lower PSM panel. In order to do this the radio unit has to be disassembled by spliting the case apart, disconnecting the various wires inside, removing the LCD panel, etc, etc. When i say everything has to be removed I mean everything! This all has to be done on your end before sending in. You will only send him the blank face plates, period. Then it is your job to reassemble, which requires some patience. Take pictures of the button placement so you dont get it screwed up.

Now i know someone is going to ask after the above procedure, does this effect my warranty? Honeslty I have no idea. The only thing I can say is that I have known the people at my dealership for years and they know i do this kind of stuff on my own. I actually did custom intigrated phone installs for them years ago. I dont think they would give me any trouble if it went bad and was obvious it wasnt from my tinkering. I did everything on the car, including installing the pss-10 damptronic system, B&M short shifter, full tubi exhaust and Cayanne pirated Sirius Radio. I just took it back to them because my PASM wouldnt work after installing the pss-10's and although they could have blamed me and the pss-10's for this they are going to replace my PASM control module under warranty. So this is something you would have to address with them.

Eric has a pretty quick turn around time, about a week or so, which I'm sure he would be better addressing this when your ready to do it.

It does make a hug difference, especially compaired to the crappy finish from the factory. I thought it was worth the time and effort for the results.

Thanks for the comments so far.

Nicely done. Don't you want to paint the back of your seats too? Better yet, replace it with a carbon fiber, that would be awesome.

Very nicely done. Very cool that you did all these mods yourself. Enjoy.

That PCM looks way hott! Enjoy, and something else to think about painting, maybe paint the little grey strip around the shifter boot yellow, just a thought, would look cool with the yellow belts and exterior.

After the fun of removing and reinstalling my new Bumperplugs painted center console, I can just about grasp the level of complexity you are highlighting when you discuss the removal process for the PCM stack. The 997 center console is quite a bit tougher to remove and replace than the 986 - which was identical to the 996.

I had thought about doing this modification, but I think you've swayed me to lean against doing...

It looks fantastic, and is a great combination with the carbon bits.

Cheers
