I get a nasty rattle from the passenger airbag area. If I push lightly on the area above the glove box it goes away. It happens when the car is cold on the inside but goes away after the sun beats on the dash for a while. I've been to the dealer twice and guess what? They can't duplicate the problem. I Guess I have to live with it but it's funny how it goes away with slight pressure on the dash..
I have 3000miles on my 08 997 and I have had this rattle behind the rear seat. Where the seat belt comes out of the window arch body, there's a plastic piece that surrounds the circumference of the opening. One side of it was sticking out a bit, so I just pushed it back in. It doesn't appear to clip in or anything, but rather just a force fit, so I just forced it back in so it's flush with the rest of the rear arch panel. It rattles significantly less, but hasn't completely disappeared, but enough so that I haven't tried to have that piece of plastic replaced.
Separately, though, I've recently heard some occasional rattling that I swear sounds like it's coming from inside the steering wheel. Any thoughts there from anyone?

It appears that Carreras have some of the worst rattles out there. Not sure why. I was lucky that my previous one didn't make a peep. This current one makes a couple small ones in the dash.
So annoying that my Accord is quiet as a mouse.

The CHEAP plastic all around our cars seems to be the main culprit of these issues.
Has anyone used any type of felt material for any of their rattles?
I had a Cayman S (for a month) and had an issue with a rattle in the rear that was magnified three fold, being in a hatch.
Mine isn't bad enough to try anything DIY like felt, but perhaps try going to the dealer and seeing if you can get a new plastic piece that surrounds the seat belt hole? Perhaps that will allow for a tighter force fit? Maybe it isn't even a force fit and the plastic clicks in and perhaps one of the click-in bolts/pieces came out when you went over a bump? For instance, in my BMW 5-Series, that happened with a door panel - it was make squeaking noises all the time; I wanted to replace the whole door panel, but turned out one of the plastic click in bolts had popped out...Let me know what you find out though as I'd be interested in what solutions you find.
So I took it to Porsche Tysons, and they did take 2 days to reduce some of the main rattles and squeaks i identified too them. They basically took apart the chrono and put it back together tight and it seems to be better...however their is minor sqeaking...enough to live with. I was told the rear squeaks i was hearing from the rear passenger are coming from where the glass meets the plastic. It seems to be livable. The only thing i am hearing now are sqeaks from my seatbelt plastic pieces, front windhield (perhaps where the plastic and glass meet and lastly NOW my driver side seatbelt.
I am taking it in for warranty work and really would like to see if other members have gotten work done or have solutions.

There is a legend going back decades that says that rattles in a 911 are "the ghost of Ferdinand Porsche". When I get a rattle, I remind myself of that, and am "somewhat" less irked. They've been a reality with these cars from the beginning.
I cannot stand rattles. The most common culprit is where plastic and plastic rub. You can use felt tape to cure that if you're handy enough to remove the offending bits- it works. My PCM squeeked a lot, rubbing with the panels on the right and left of it. Those are easy to remove, and the execssive use of felt tape cured it. Small felt stickers (often green or brown, sold at Lowe's and used on the bottom of objects you might place on a wooden table) are also effective, and come in myriad sizes and depths.
Currently my biggest rattles come from under the headliner/ top of the door frame above my head, as well as the roof over the rear passenger seat. I've applied tape to the plastic trim there, to no avail. I think it's somewhere under the alcantara liner. And I've got one from my instrument cluster, which I've solved inelgantly by shoving a piece of paper (folded a few times) between the top of the tachometer and the eyebrow of the cluster.
One work-around that seems to work for me: increase other sounds so as to relatively decrease the rattle noise. Mufflers, cats, and a LWFH do the trick. Or you could turn up your music/ drive with the windows open.

Me, too
Interesting how my 83 911SC doesn't make one rattle and my 05 rattles

I also have that same intermittent squeaking from the driver side seatbelt compartment. For a quick fix I just folded up a business card a few times and jammed it in between the plastic pieces. I would also like to know if anybody else has come up with a more permanent fix, that's less tacky then the folded up business card.
