Radio system upgrade

Hey guys!
I did a search and didn't find anything so need your help.
I want to replace the radio system on my 997 and would like to know if any have done it. I was looking at a Alpine 505 with seperate nav or Kenwood 8120.
Do you loose anything from the PCM?
Thanks alot for any help!

i haven't seen many people do it, as the entire system is fiberoptic, and would have to be replaced by fiberoptic compatible cables and parts. unless you were able to do that, i would think that the entire pcm would be gone. i would think that the least expensive way to replace it would be to junk the entire system along with it's fiberoptic connections and pcm and, if so inclined, install a whole new system along with it's cables and amplifiers.

Do a search on the rennlist 997 forum. A year or more back, someone replaced his sound system & there was a fairly long thread about it. Not sure what happened with the PCM functions controlled by the lower left hand stalk.
