what do you do?
what do you do?
Hey guys,
Just wondering...
When I had my 997s, it was kind of fun driving around on a weekend with other Porsche's (997's turbo and non-turbo's) driving by. In almost every case, I would get a wave or a nod. Now that I am driving a 997TT, I really do feel that other Porsche drivers make it a point to look the other way! Really, I am sure that I am not imagining this.
When I had my 997S, I always acknowledged any Porsche at a stop light or passing by with a simple nod or a slight wave. It's kind of like a "brotherhood" of drivers that share the same passion for Porsches!
Well, it does not seem to be the same anymore.

Sadly, I think when you start driving a very premium car or exotic car, people start to behave differently. I think any true car enthusiast would without a doubt wave back recognizing the brotherhood. Case in point, it's pretty hard to not look at an ariel atom as its driving down the road. But yet, that's exactly what happens to me a lot, you get a bunch of adults staring straight ahead while their kids are plastered to the minivan windows staring. It's really pretty funny. The other day I had an R8 pull over, wave me by and give me a big thumbs up - clearly a fellow car nut! Another example, is all the time I see ferrari drivers virtually assaulted on the freeways around here, with people in SUV's trying to catchup and pace them. Really strange, since there are an awful lot of ferraris around here, yet I think that car really brings out the worst in people.
I wave everytime I see the other car soon enough. I find that a lot of people drive a Porsche because it is a show piece. I think a lot of people think a Porsche is for show and are trying to act cool when driving around. I am the kind of owner that will go out of there way to talk to another owner.
I wave or flash my lights at pretty much every 911 - turbocharged or not.
In the S2000 - it's very common to get a wave back. Porsche - about 60 % of the time.
In the S4 - never get a wave back from other Audis.

Dateline, Charlotte, NC....................
When I moved here 20 years ago, Charlotte was the most logo wearing (Polo, Brook Brothers, etc), Rolex wearing yuppie city I had ever seen.
It was very much a "good ole boy", college buddy town.
As I aged, I just observed and chuckled...............now that I can afford a nice P car, I see them all around. The women P car drivers never even look at other P cars, most TTs I see are equipped with cell phone and driver's ear attached; most Boxsters have a middle aged couple in them and don't acknowledge the 911s.
I always wave and sometimes blink the lights, and sometimes they blink or wave back. If the sun roof is open, I always wave out the top.
I have met a few very nice folks through these sites and the PCA meeting, but overall, I still see a little of the "snob" attitude when driving around in town and in the country.
It really seems that the track folks are the true, friendly enthuiasts............

I do the same. I really do feel that just about every Porsche, every model has it's own unique and distinct look. I really do miss my 997s. I think that it is a totally different car compared to my 997TT. It has a different look and a different feel. Hell, I even really like the looks of Caymans and Boxters!! It's just not practical for me to own all of them. I have only enough time in my life to enjoy one sports car.
enjoy!
Just out of curiosity, why not the Cayenne owners?
