First 911, need advice on pricing please?
Hello 6Speedonliners,
I have learned so much valuable information from all of you, and it is much appreciated. I have finally decided to pull the trigger into getting my first Porsche. I am looking at the certified pre-owned dealer market only. I know it costs a bit more from private party purchases, but I'd like to experience the buying process with a known dealer. So here's the details of the car I'm looking into:
Order Type POVCTF POV CERTIFIED
Warranty Date 10/20/2005 Trans Number
Body Color L8 Retail Price 99,225.00
Option Class Option Option Class Description Option Price
BSEMDL BASE Porsche Base Model 81,400.00
BDYCLR G1 Guards Red .00
INTERI AT Black Full Leather 3,365.00
OPTION XCZ Sport Shifter 765.00
OPTION XLF Sport Exhaust System 2,400.00
OPTION M6A Black Mats - Porsche lettering 115.00
OPTION 680 Bose High End Sound Package 1,390.00
OPTION 692 Remote CD Changer (6 Disc) 650.00
OPTION 640 Chrono Package Plus 920.00
OPTION 670 Navigation for PCM 2,070.00
OPTION 446 Wheel Caps with Colored Crest 185.00
OPTION XPA Thicker Steering Wheel-Leather 800.00
OPTION X70 Metal Door Sill Model Insignia 415.00
OPTION P01L Adaptive Sport Sts Lthr Int 2,695.00
TOPCLR G1 Guards Red Top ..00
OPTION XMZ Rear Center Console - Leather 1,260.00
Car currently has 15,299 miles.
Been on the lot since 2/26/08 in California.
I know the car was most likely purchased at less than the MSRP of $99,225. KBB lists the car for a trade-in value at 63K.
KBB lists dealer pricing at 73K.
Dealer is offering at $69,995.
So what do you guys think?
Should I offer 65K? Reasonable?
Thanks again for all your input.

In three months, it will be four model years old.
It's sitting on a lot for a very long time [Like many '08 models], because it is overpriced [That might be the only reason].
I personally don't like the 911 in Guards Red.
I bought two 944s in Guards Red though ['87 Coupe/'88.5 Turbo S Coupe].

Thanks for the replies fellas. I guess the concensus is nothing over 65K max? Just trying to see what everyone else thinks the 997.1 S is worth since the 997.2s are just around the corner. Anyone else care to chime in? All your opinions are helpful. Thanks again.
I'm guessing that this is an 06 model as Oct 05 ,2005 is all that's stated .
The car has some nice options , mileage is fair , and with the ask price and from a dealership I would try 10 percent off and hope they bite .
You know in advance that it's more expensive than private sale but it sounds like the first car in awhile that sounds reasonable .
UNLESS --it's an 05 .

Thanks for the input Yrralis1. So 10% off puts it around 63K. Hopefully that's a reasonable offer to them if that's what most enthusiasts on this forum think the car is worth. I'm eager to join the family, but will be willing to wait for a good car at a reasonable and descent price. It's always hard to gauge the pre-owned market since every car is different. It seems easier to make a deal with new cars since we all have a good idea of approximate dealer cost and MSRP. With this car, I have no idea what the dealer's cost in this car is. But again, the car was bought by the dealer back in February and we're now 5 months later. Seems to me the longer they let the car sit on the lot, the smaller their profit margin will be. Hopefully they just want to move the thing without a loss to them (or a profit) so they can make room for the newer cars.

Being that it's near the months end , struggling economy, stock market drop , gas price high , had it for months type of car-- all you need is for it to rain to tilt the price in your favor. It's a nice car though and even though 63 is high I factored in the region and the fact that it's from a dealership .
I think you will have fun negotiating it and really enjoy the drive home with it .
Driving home your first Porsche ...Sigh . It's a very special moment where the drive home in my case has been a lifetime memory .

Would you guys wait until September when the 997.2s come out. Do you think the price of the current 997s will drop much more?
I figured supply and demand will bring the value of the 997 down. People will be returning leases and hopping into the new ones, and supply will be high with low demand in this slow market.

Why you ask? Is one dealer more willing to negotiate than others? I went to the dealer and test drove the car. Loved it, but didn't want to make an offer just yet until I get rid of my BMW 335 Coupe. A sale is hopefully pending.
What have your experiences been? Any particular dealer in Southern California that I should go to...or avoid?
Thanks again, all!

Cephas, thanks for the advice. I've been dealing with Newport Auto Center with this specific car. They seem to be willing to negotiate with price, but I have not made an official offer yet. I tried Pacific Porsche in Torrance via email, but no response yet. I know they're a Premier Porsche dealership, so I may have to "come to them" as opposed to "them coming to me". Newport has been approaching me since my first interaction with them through email. Looks like a better sign when the dealer follows up with emails and messages. I'm not too fond of hunting down a sales associate, but I'll give Pacific the benefit of the doubt and give them a call.
check some of the earlier threads re customer treatment at dealers. I believe Newport was mentioned fairly often. walk away if you feel pushed into any decision....then when you find a car you really like, go for it, get the best deal you can, and drive it outta there....
