Is sport exhaust necessary on Carrera S
I've followed the exhaust discussions on this forum with a lot of interest. Seems like a popular upgrade choice is x51 headers, AWE cats and stock mufflers. The stock mufflers keep the car from sounding too loud.
What do people think of x51 headers, AWE cats and PSE? Drive with PSE in quiet mode most of the time (still louder than stock). Go to really loud mode when at the track or showing off....

As the stock mufflers and PSE are both quite free-flowing you'd get most of the performance of a full AWE system if you used either with the AWE headers/cats combo. Up to you then which sound you like and if switching it on and off is important.
Given the pictures that can be found on this board of the 2009 exhaust, I'd think the factory PSE option might become more appealing to many and less appealing to others.
None of us, I suspect, has actually heard the 2009 motors with or without the PSE in person. I'm guessing that it will continue to sound excellent.

I love the sound but enjoy the option to shut it off, around churches in session, pulling into my office parking deck, parking at a client's office, visiting my Mom. All these places make a hush kit worthwhile.
I would save your money and go aftermarket. i went with a full Tubi exhaust and not only did i save some weight and gain some power it sounds awesome when you get on it. i dont know about the other companies but the tubi can be quite if you arnt on it but can scream when you want it to.
I have the PSE and it sounds great! Who needs 5-10 more hp anyway? We live in America. The car is amazing even if we drive 50% of it's ability. If we all wanted sheer hp, we would all sell our P Cars and buy the GTR!
It is kinda nice to have the ability to on or off for those who feel they need it .
I chose an aftermarket (Tubi) exhaust because I felt it was better . It's claimed to have a few extra Hp , is light , and I liked the sound more .
I had Tubi in my 997S
I have Tubi in my 997tt .
You do have alot of exhaust choices but PSE is the only OEM choice .
PSE =Porsche sport exhaust . No power gain but a really cool sound .

I still think these are the best sound / performance for the buck, plus they weigh 8lbs each: www.afterhoursautomotive.com/porschemufflers.html - They only scream when you hit WOT, otherwise pretty mellow. (I'm talking "sports car" mellow, not "lexus mellow")
Presently waiting on a set for my 997.
