Wierd Clutch Issue

I have a 06 997S with ~40k miles, second owner at 22k miles, and so far apart from the notchiness going from 2nd to 3rd, the gearbox has been awesome.

I had the car parked today at a parking lot, when I started the car, I heard a weird screeching noise from the engine and the car didn't start. I took the key out of the ignition, put it back in and started it again, the car started with no problems.

As I'm backing out I notice the clutch pedal had gotten very heavy and the clutch's "bite" point had changed; I had to disengage more of the clutch to get the car going. Keep in mind everything was fine prior to parking the car.

I drove around a little bit, the "bite" point is a bit better, but still worse than it was before and the clutch still has a very heavy feel.

Did my clutch magically die? Or did the screeching from the engine kill it?

Question--

1) Do you think someone tried to either tow, steal, or tamper with the car ?
2) Did you return to look and see any fluid(s) in the parking spot ?

I ask this because the two problems do not seem related and to happen by chance after parking is of course a possibility but it raises question.

An engine screech could be anything from a wet belt (from rain) to some minor glitch .
The clutch bite sounds like its slipping and that implies a new clutch might be needed.

Good luck.

I don't think anyone tried anything on the car and there weren't any fluids dripping.

But fortunately, this morning the gearbox was back to normal, no idea why it was acting up yesterday.

Even after 40k miles, the gearbox seems bulletproof, how often do you guys change your clutch?

sounds like a clutch issue but without any more info on your driving style (do you push it hard every chance you get) and driving conditions (freeway vs local) its anyone's guess.
with 40k on your odo., I would say its about time for trip to the stealer or an independent shop for diagnostics. If you need new clutch, don't forget to think about light weight flywheels (free horsepower) since your tranny is all apart anyway.
Good luck with your issue and keep us posted if anything else gets strange.
Posts such as this is invaluable since all of us can benefit from it.
Cheers.
