Difference in power between 997S cars

Just wanted to share something interesting- I've test driven a number of 05/06 997S cars. Coupes, cabs, and even a tip. All with about the same mileage (under 20k), all stock, all with sport chrono and sport mode turned on.

Noticing a big diff in power between some of the cars. Example, I test drove a 997S cab, 06, 20k miles on it, 6speed, all stock. Thing was dog slow. I think my 996 was faster.. lol
Then drove a different 06 S cab, similar specs, very fast. noticeably different.
Then drove an 06 S coupe, tip, it was a rocket.
Then drove an 06 S coupe, 6speed, dog slow.

Coupes all felt faster than their cab counterparts. I had a friend with me while I was test driving the cars and he noticed the same thing (sanity check). Is this variance typical?

Also, u think any of them are running on regular instead of super unleaded gas? I wonder if the seller put in cheap gas to save some money.

I've not heard of this variance myself....

nope, none had X51 per the option sheets. Good point on the gas, I never dreamed someone would be idiot enought to put regular instead of super, but who knows...
btw these were all CPO dealership cars at well-respected places, or well cared for cars owned by enthusiasts like us.

I've read of some "faster" mutant cars from the factory, which made their way to a few magazine tests (e.g. 0 to 60 in 3.9sec, etc.). There's also been a few cars which dyno differently, but this is mainly due to comparing different dyno's.

Some of the tuners who use the same dyno but with different 997s' should know. Let's see if they chime in and give us an answer.

I drove my friends 997S when I was in San Diego. I felt no difference in speed.

+1 on the Gas, I only run 94 so I don't even think about it when considering power.

Interesting question as to how it would run faster, I am sure some one would have a good explanation.

The ones with more power were broken in by driving them hard. The ones with less power were broken in by babying them for 2000 miles.

We've found over time that Porsche has a tendency to put engines in the Paint To Sample cars that have been further refined than the run of the mill Black or Metallic Silvers...

I am sure any difference is solely in OP's head. Barring dyno data or different times with the same drivers to the contrary, I don't believe there is a significant or noticeable differences b/n different versions of the same model cars.

Maybe the Gear Oil is warmed up in one and not the other

^ ok ok guys, before this degenerates into an OP-bashing thread let me just say I was not the only person who noticed back-to-back differences in a few of the cars test driven that day.
I just found it a bit surprising which is why I posed the original question, to see if anyone had experienced similar. Not a big subject worth chewing on.. Perhaps just a couple of oddball cars...

OP,

I am not bashing you, I am actually making fun of some posts in another thread that suggested power changes were related to the temperature of the gear oil. Please don't take any post that I make as a personal attack. I know that most people on this forum are pretty easy going, and just like to have a little fun.

I am sure that there are differences between cars, they are manufactured by humans and we are far from perfect!

1) I have owned two 997S cars . Both were equal . One was an 05 and the other was an 07 . I have driven several but never a cab . Again equal . All were new cars .

2) As for black or silver being slower . I drove a lapis blue recently .
Same as the black and silver ones I owned.

Gas, weather , car care , etc can vary miles and condition . A slow car may have some problem. Passenger weight also plays a role . If you test drove it alone --it's constant . I found this out on numereous drives . By myself I am 150 pounds . With my girlfriend combined weight we are 260 . If I take a 200+ pounder for a ride i see the difference .

Almost every S that I've seen has been around 305Hp on a dyno, with little enough variation to be a surprise, despite the 'all dynos are different, weather is always different' stuff. It's odd. Mine came in at 308.2 stock. My point is, I have never seen one much lower (298, I think), and I've never seen one over 312.
