Parking Jungle!!
Parking Jungle!!
Ok. So I just got my 997 Carrera S. Its my new baby.
Everytime I go somewhere I'm very scared of where I park it.
If its a big lot, I park it where there are no cars.
But when I go to crowded areas of my town (downtown and beaches). I have to look for parking wherever I can find.
I hate parking parrell, because someone is always trying to fit into small spots that open, and bump your front or rear bumper. (Causes dents and cracking in the paint of bumpers!!!)
Or in lots or slatted street parking.......... the hated DOOR Dings!.
Well today parking my car by the beach I got both!!!!!!
A door ding on the passenger side!!!!!!! (from a burgundy car) and a VW cabrio tried to fit into a spot that was tiny, and gave me a love peck on the front end! It parked no more than 3 inches from my car.
I was fuming!!!!!
I know its going to get dents and scratches (its a car) but we can try to minimize it!
It seems like all i think once i park is of some *** hitting it or putting a dent in my new car, that was spotless.
I'm i the only crazy!!!!
What do you guys do?

I hear ya loud abd clear . I am so neurotic that after years of incidents ranging from the simple door ding to an entire front end torn off for my xenon lights multiple times . I once even caught a guy siting in my car trying to steal it . I got to the point where I took 18 months off from Porsche and missed it so much I bought a Porsche and a second car just for parking lots . It's a Honda Civic Si and its my worry free car . It's actually quite nice.
I did about this very topic in the Turbo forum awhile back and got a variety of replies . You might enjoy the read. https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...overprotective
Sorry to hear of the ding . The good part is that paintless dent repair will resolve it.

Sorry to hear..hate those bastards that don't care about other peoples property. I say buy a beater and you don't need to worry about your car while being parked and have a good time.
If thats not an option, have someone else drive

You need a beater for sure. I'm the same way and it's worth spending 5-6K on a used car that you can live worry free and take that car to the beach and shopping ect. It's not worth the stress....
I feel for you. l am very careful about parking... so far no door dents (a few close calls), but then someone without auto insurance rear-ended my 997S on freeway... It is a dangerous world out there
I was so nervous at first, I would never park my car out of my sight.
I have found the best place to park is in a slot next to the handicap spots.
They usually have about a 5 foot space between their spot and the first regular spot. I pull over so that the car that would park in the regular spot next to me would be far enough away so their door could not touch me.
I have an older SUV and I usually take it for trips to the store, etc. I reserve my P car for country drives and track days!!

A beater is certainly the way to go. Alternatively, you're going to have to avoid some places or find a different way to get there (bike, walk, jog, etc...)
Sometimes people who make an effort to park "away" from other people get special treatment from miscreants. If you're going to park I would do what you're doing now and pretend you're parking a POS beater and then pray nobody messes with it.

I park further away from entrances to stores, and in large parking lots I park on the end of the row so that I am on the line giving plenty of room for people to open there door.
I also find parking on the street is safer then in a parking lot, no door dings and more traffic going by makes it less likely to get broken into.

I drive my wife nuts looking for a remote and/or ding safe parking spot. Usually it means a nice hike but I figure it's good exercise. I'm probably on a 1 to 10 scale a 9.9999 when it come to paranoia regarding dings. I've had this 997 about 1 1/2 yrs and so far so good . . . . . No dings or blemishes.
ps. In addition to inconsiderate parkers watch out for light standards, trees, power lines, etc. In other words I always look toward the sky when parking. Pretty sick eh!

I'm glad I'm not alone in this. My wife thinks I'm crazy and she said a car will always get nick here and there. In some sense she is right but that's because so many people are out there and they don't care about door dings (she is one of them).
