As for the PSE being on or off, I have it permanently in Loud mode - and it sounds Awesome - loud enough for a ticket, no question about it.

Gundo,

I had a local shop put a switch in place to move it from always on to always off. If you get pulled over for to much noise, you can throw the switch and it quiets down to legal level. I had the switch installed in the rear centre console by my elbow.

You may want to look into it.

When I installed the X51 headers (those are mine in photo above) and PSE system recently, I wired it to a switch in console rather than to the Sport switch. I have total control and don't have to be in Sport mode to engage the PSE. Here is photo of switch.

Nice Job Ken, an much better use of the ashtray then it's original intention. I use my ashtray for parking meter change.

I'd be interested to know just how quiet headers, cats, + PSE are in quiet mode.

Ed - would you say it is close to stock level of quiet when PSE is set to quiet? I've not got the electronics nor wiring to even install, so I'm wondering if it would be worth sourcing and installing the "quiet" switch. Sourced the PSE pretty cheaply ;-)

My 7 year old would love it - I can just hear it now - Daddy, hit the loud button!

No it is not as quiet as stock, the Headers and Cats make most of the noise/sound.

The switch definitely makes it more civilized in quiet mode, IMO it is not loud until about 5000 RPM (but I am use to it).

My son (4 years old) did that last night, I through the switch and he smiles and laughs.

If you just have the PSE mufflers without the control equipment, there are a number of things you need to add the control function, including vacuum tubing, control valve & solenoid, wiring, etc. Those additional pieces may be hard to get.

I didn't notice any increase in loudness when I converted from the stock manifolds and stock mufflers to the X51 manifolds and PSE mufflers (in quiet mode). So any additional noise must be due to the low-restriction cats.

It's funny, I've got the solenoid and wiring leftover from a Boxster PSE - I bet most of the bits are the same and this would work, just really wondering if it's worth it...

I'll tell you, the cats are awesome - they really sound great

I think that it is worth it, how much will a ticket cost if you get pulled over? Better yet how much is it worth to you to get pulled over and then throw the switch and let the cops try and figure out why it is quiet, the sound difference at idol is almost unnoticeable, so they wouldn't hear the change over.

As for the cats, they are awesome, the car is a so much nicer with them, then with out.

+1 on softronic. It pulled my mods together. I haven't done the dyno thing, but it feels better throughout the rpm range.

I think Softronic is the way to go, specially for international buyers. No need to send the ecu, just wait for your cable to arrive, plug it in and upload the new file...! I don't have Softronic yet, but I will be getting one in no time.

My own exhaust "mutt"

Found this thread by searching on Europipe! Didn't know how many of this exhaust system's owners were out there. Now of course I have to add my $.02.

My 2005 997S has EVOMS headers, Europipe 100 cell sport cats, and Europipe sport exhaust. I originally ran the X51 headers that came "stock" with the full Europipe exhaust system. However after a few months I found the sound to be less gratifying than potentially possible, so I swapped out the X51s for EVOMS headers. Can't speak to any performance differences between X51 and EVOMS; probably splitting hairs at that point.

If anyone is interested in hearing a bit of sound from this set up, please see the YouTube link below:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwwKAz8qiDk

This isn't a purpose built video for my exhaust sound, so only the first minute or so is relevant. I'll follow up with a clean video of just the exhaust in the next few weeks.

Cheers!

is there any difference in sound between evo and x-51 headers?

Yes, I'm certain the EVOMS headers sound deeper, louder and more aggressive than the X51 headers with my cats and mufflers being equal.

Compare the sound of my setup in this new video versus the standard Europipe promotional videos found at their website. One major difference is that my engine is supercharged while the promo video 997S was likely otherwise stock.
