Engine lid fan - always on?

2006 997 Cab- Whenever I start the car, even when cold, the engine lid fan comes on and stays on. Doesn't seem normal- Anyone else experience this?

Check the cable connection to the heat sensor in the engine compartment located on top, right side of engine between the back and middle intake runs.

JCS is infamous around these parts
That's normal .
The fan runs whenever the engine is on.

After turning the engine off, if the engine compartment is very hot , a thermostat will cycle the fan on-off until it cools down ( if you don't want the fan to run, open the lid until the engine cools )

You're right .
I just checked and the fan does not start automatically when the engine starts.

I suppose it activates via t-stat when the engine compartment reaches a certain temperature ( which is pretty much immediately when parked in the sun , during the summer )

Per my manual, the temperature is monitored for 30 minutes after shutting off the engine

Check with your dealer. I know there was a TSB for a fan fix not long ago.

no biggie- I have a roof rattle to get looked and need to have dealer set a few options like drive-off locking, alarm light flash, etc. I'll have them check it out because it does seem a bit excessive

I have the same fan on at start up, even during cold weather. I only noticed it recently so I guess it is a new "feature" of the car. I'll get the dealer to have a look when it goes in for service.
