Pre-Purchase Inspection?

On a CPO 2006 997s, do I need to have a pre-purchase inspection done?

If so, should it be done by a dealer different from the one selling it?

Thanks.

Have you seen and driven the car or is it an out of state purchase? If you've driven/seen it yourself and your buying it from a Porsche dealership w/ a CPO then I suspect a independent inspection isn't warranted.

If your not good at 'kicking the tires' you might want a more experienced person to look the car over just for peace of mind.

ps. You should do a CARFAX or something like that. That will reveal ownership, registration, service, warranty, insurance claim history.

Good Luck!

I agree AP but with one caveat on the carfax . This thread in the off topic forum points towards a carfax issue which was posted . https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...title-wtf.html

Some cars have accidents and air bags don't deploy. So this does not get reported to Carfax!

I would say that if the car is from a Porsche dealer and it's CPO, I don't think you need much of a PPI.

You could have someone else go over it just to make sure.

I was under the impression that insurance activity over a certain dollar amount is recorded and becomes part of the history. I didn't know that air bag deployment was the trigger. We all know that CarFax or services like that can only get what has been put in 'public records'. Body shop and repair facility activities are not 'public records' in if not all most cases.

If a vehicle has 'salvage' title or is (has) located in an area that was identified as a 'disaster zone' (ie. hurricane, flood, etc) that info might be included as well.

I know for a fact that CarFax, etc is only as good as the data that is recorded or provided. If the wrong mileage, registration info, etc. is provided the vehicle's history becomes corrupted. The buyer/seller then as to sort it out and attempt to have it corrected if it becomes an issue.
