Shipping a hard top !!

Need some advice !! Recently purchased a hard top from a gentlemen in Tampa, Fl. Found one shipping option but thought it was a little on the high side given the ship time was 3-4 weeks (must be coming by way of Alaska). The fact that it's an LTL shipment means it could be handled a dozen times by various shippers before I get it. More handling more opportunity for damage. Anyone ever done this before ? Shipper needs to be able to package/crate the top as well. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks.

Try UPS, they are equipped to handle large items. I have a full skid of goodies coming from Florida to me in Vancouver and they were the best price. As well they offer a tracking number.

It's going to have to be crated well.
Keep in mind the metal is thin....the whole thing is not that tough.
Is a drive to FL out of the question?.......if it's on your car, you have no worries.

A bit off thread but is the hardtop metal? I thought it was plastic or fiberglass.

I would hope they use aluminum to help keep the CG as low as possible. Porsche uses aluminum for the front hood so they must be concerned about weight. Metal of course is less expensive and more user friendly (ie. dents, etc).

Thanks for all the responses. After looking at several options I've decided to go with UPS. They've agreed to crate, ship and insure the top for just under $ 500. Feel better about using them as I've always had good luck using them. Time will tell. I'll post an update for those curious about the outcome when I get the top.
