Cleaning

Any help would be appreciated with members recommendations on keeping a black 997 in shiny condition - especially removing swirl marks and cleaning exhaust tail pipes (non-chrome)

thanks

I've had good luck using Zaino on my black 997 - www.zainostore.com

I recently purchased a Griots Garage orbital polisher to detail my three 911's, my 993 being black. Works awesome! Very simple to use, very safe and leaves no swirl marks. I would highly recommend it. Good luck.

if you are considering an orbital polisher I would take look at the FLEX.
A bit pricey but a superior machine IMHO.

Ahhh, Young Grasshopper, products alone are not the answer. It's using proper techniques and processes that are paramount. I've commented at length on detailing black paint (my 997S is black), so do a search for my posts, or visit the holy grail on detailing: www.autopia.org. Autopia is to detailing what 6speedonline is to Porsche. They offer a downloadable book which is a must read, and it's cheap.

After you've done that, you should be good to go, and at that point, I'd be happy to lend you a hand over the phone, so feel free to PM me. I can help you get your car looking perfect.

LOL -- What a thread . I fluctuate between Meguairs and professional detailer at the dealership . Plus my car is garaged and not driven daily .

The most important aspect of cleaning is not so much the soap or the wax . Yes they are important but beyond that the loofa mit and absorbers are extremely important . I also agree with Cattman that "technique" is also crucial .

unless you've worked with a orbital polisher before try it on a different car or painted metal so you can practice with it and not work it hard and strip off your clear coat.. Have a detailer come in to wax and buff out the swirls then key is to wash it yourself using the 2 bucket method with a good wool mit. +2 on the Autopia web site..

The first thing to do is get a professional detailer to paint correct the car.I had a guy here in the UK spend 2 days polishing swirl marks out and then applying a coat of Zymol Royale. The car looked amazing after he was done, the paintwork was as good as new.In between visits from him every 6 months I keep it topped up using Zymol HD cleanse and Concours wax.Leaves a fantastic 'wet look' to your black paint.

great advice from everyone - thanks a lot.

I do use other griots garage products - what process/products do you use from start to finish?
