i gotta question,
i gotta question,
It's agreed that item which wear, are not covered by warranty, right? Right..
Now what if said wear item, which is not worn out is causing a condition. Shouldn't that part be replaced under warranty, not because of a wear or user caused condition, but because of a defective part ?
My rms was replaced a month ago by a dealer. I had them inspect the clutch disk to make sure it was good. I was told it was in great condition and the micrometer showed it was wearing properly for the miles. Figured the tranny was down, and it would only cost me parts to replace..( Just flipped 20k miles ). 2 weeks after the job was done, I'm hearing a noise coming from the clutch when engaging first gear only, kinda like a moan noise. Brought it to the dealer last week, and the couldn't duplicate it. On the ride home it happened like 10x. I brought the car back and took the writer for a ride and he hears it. They check it out and said the disk is binding slightly on the input shaft when engaging and causing the noise. They said its not covered because its a wear item. My argument was I was told it was in great shape a few weeks ago. I put 200 Miles on the car and now its making noise after you guys removed it and reinstalled it, which it was not doing before. And its not being replaced because I burned it out, it being replaced because the STEEL splines on the disk are warped and binding on the input shaft. Am i barking up the wrong tree here? Is there something I'm missing? we're still going back and forth with this.. Let me know your thoughts on this please.

At the very least, your dealer could sell you the parts at cost and split the labor with you or work out some kind of deal.
Hindsight being 20/20, I would have opted to pay for the parts and had them replace the clutch when the RMS issue was fixed.

Sorry to hear that- maybe call Porsche NA corp office? Talk to dealership manager? Sounds to me like it should be covered but there's enough "gray area" to let them back out of warrantying it. In my experience the squeaky wheel gets the oil.
How long does a clutch normally last?

I had two clutches replaced under warranty on my 01 Audi S4, the first was a bent pressure plate (at 5000km). The second never felt right, I complained every time I was into the dealer. Finally they replaced it at 12000km and it felt great after that. I never did find out what caused the second clutch to not function properly, I suspect it was bad work when it was replaced.
I would think that talking with the service manager and finding a solution to the problem. BTW they all have a budget for internal work done for free due to internal error.

can you tell me what dealer this is, I am having a problem with a NYC dealership as well and i wanted to know if this is becoming the norm with them. PM me if you want to keep it quiet
It sounds like the dealership damaged a part.
It is Basalt Black Metallic.
