I've been having CEL issues with my AWE system (Headers, Cats and cans) as well.

Mike suggested maybe my system was installed incorrectly, while my dealer says after market...blah, blah, blah.... meanwhile it's a royal PITA for sure. I've had it reset 5 times now and still it comes back.........

I'm caught in the middle.....

1Gunner,

Can you get me the serial number off of your cat sections? I don't recall us having a conversation about improper install. Can you refresh my memory? No need to email me, just post it here.

I will attest that AWE and Mike have been very eager to help with my issue.

Before anyone this thread has a nervous breakdown, allwo me to clarify.

We have not always been using HJS cats. When we introduced the 997 system they were not available. We found the best cat we could. However, there have been a few failures. No hiding that.

What we are doig to help is if you purchased them new from us, or one of our authorized dealers, we have an upgrade program to the new HJS cats. This is done at a highly discounted rate, but you MUST show proof you are the origianl purchaser.

Here is a direct quote from our warranty paperwork sent with every exhaust:

Limited Warranty
The following warranty is valid only in the United States and Canada.

The Manufacturer’s full warranty applies to all products sold.

Secor Ltd. (A.W.E. Tuning) warrants to the original retail purchaser (Consumer) the following products against defects for LIFETIME:

1 year on catalytic converter sections

LIFETIME on balance of system components

Upon verification of warranty coverage, A.W.E. Tuning will replace the defective product without charge. This is the only remedy the Consumer has for any loss or damage, however arising, due to nonconformity in or defect of the product. This warranty does not cover consequential damage, loss of time or revenues, inconvenience, loss of use of vehicle, damage to the vehicle or components, or other incidental or indirect damage.
All warranties are void if the product was not installed by a certified auto mechanic, improperly serviced, modified, or used in a way not intended by the Manufacturer. Use of product in Motorsports or Racing conditions is grounds for warranty denial. Motorsports and Racing is an inherently abusive operational condition, and it is impossible to warranty for this type of usage.

The Consumer is responsible for ensuring that the product is installed in a safe and proper manner, and should cease usage of the product immediately if an unsafe or improper condition is noted. If an unsafe or improper condition is noted, the Consumer should then immediately contact the facility where the product was installed or A.W.E. Tuning.

Please contact us first for any warranty claims or explanations of this document.

Please let me know if anyone needs further help.

I guess the used market for the A.W.E. cats have just gone down the drain Now I'm gonna have to wait for the updated ones to show up on the used market.

Mike - help - stop the hemorrhaging. When did the "good" cats start getting to the market or what serial numbers mark the beginning of the "good" cats? I was under the assumption that AWE had been using HJS cats in their 997 products for awhile now....

For the record, our original cat sections used a 300 cell metal core cat that kept the check engine light off longer than any 100 or 200 cell cat available at that time. MSRP for those complete cat sections was $995.

When HJS was able to provide us with an OBD2 compliant version in a 200 cell count, we did extensive testing and found it to be a superior cat to the previous one we were using from a different supplier. We then began using HJS cats in all our Porsche systems, starting around 5/31/07. MSRP increased accordingly, since the HJS unit cost us a lot more.

Serial number G22 or higher denotes HJS cats used in 997 cat sections from us. MSRP on HJS equipped 997 cat sections is $1495. If a customer is the original purchaser of our older 300 cell cats that are still under our 1 year warranty, we can either replace them with 300 cell cats at no charge, or we can update to the HJS versions for the price difference of $500.

FYI, due to exchange rates, a price increase on these cat sections is coming soon.

Todd,
my invoice date is 4/12/2007. (you can easily confirm from the invoice #)
You say 200 cell cats went online 31/5/2007
from my serial # G17 you say I have older 300 cell Cat
from my invoice, it says I have a 200 Cell cat ( again you can confirm from the invoice number)
You say 300 cell cats sold for $995.00
My invoice is $1495.
All my correspondence with Mike Romano when I first encountered the CEL issue last year, he says I have 200 cell cats.

Can you please clarify the confusing statement you've made for me? And hopefully help me out of CEL hell!!

AWE, Porsche and last but hopefully never least...your customers deserve better!!

Peter,

We've hashed this out with you on Rennlist already. Here was the PM I sent you there on May 5, 2008:

"Peter,

P2096 is not a faulty cat code. You stated that you had a loose O2 sensor last time you got this code. Have you checked your O2 sensors again? P2096 can also be an exhaust leak. This sounds like an installation error.

Please keep me posted so I can let forum member know that this was not a problem with our parts."

Perhaps you are getting a different fault code now?

I am not sure how this can be construed as poor customer service. We have been very responsive to you.

Please don't deflect the questions I have or try to paint me as a poor customer.
It was Micheal that requested this be posted instead of emailed.....

BTW, same error code, but that's not this issue as dealer has checked and confirmed O2 sensors are not the cause on several occasions now.

Sorry, Peter, but I did not know how else to interpret your statement:

"AWE, Porsche and last but hopefully never least...your customers deserve better!!"

As stated before, a P2096 is *not* a cat code. Many 6speed members can back me up on that one, as can a quick search of these forums.

I can understand why you may assume that this code is related to a bad cat, as it seems to have started popping up soon after you had our cats installed, but you need to start focusing on the related items of a cat install now, such as the O2 sensors, exhaust leak upstream, etc.
